2JZ in an FD

OK, here is the deal, I have a rolling chassis RX7 and I was thinking abuot what to do with it and someone gave me the idea of putting the Supra 2JZ motor in the FD. It sounds like a fun project and I figured that if a LS1 can fit then there shouldnt be any problem making the 2JZ fit. Just wanting you guys opinion.

If you really think that, you have no business even attempting a project such as this. A DOHC I-6 is nothing dimensionally like a OHV V-8.

Go to the Rotary Performance sub-forum and look under Other Engine Conversions.

Your gay for wanting to do such a thing.. 2nd.. to fit it you have to build a complete custom subframe and hack the hell out of the firewall to get it to fit.. the idea is old.. Sp Engineering did it. If you want to do somthing cool build a custom 4 or even better a 5 rotor.

teamstealth 10-02-03 04:28 PM

well, to each his own i say... but someone has done it before....but im sure the custom fabrication necessary to achieve a 2JZ-FD cost them well into the 6-figure range. If your just looking for exclusivity and bling...good luck with this project, but if you just want reliable power and no more rotors, LS1 is the way to go. Its a LOT cheaper, not 110% custom, and it works.

ps-my rotors are staying! no sac-religious rx7 acts for me :)

Flybye 10-02-03 04:31 PM

I guess no one has the ballz to do a 4 rotor conversion......

Louis M 10-02-03 04:39 PM

thats what i think... theres a guy in australia that sells a four rotor kit: four rotors, an ecentric shaft that can handle that... but what tranny...

Resource 10-02-03 04:44 PM

The conversion will most def not be cheap but it's not going to cost you any 6 figures.

If you supply the motor and do the wiring yourself then I'm sure you could get Ron at Bi-State customs to build the subframe and mount the motor/tranni for 2000-2500.

Godzilla-T78 10-02-03 06:03 PM

Find me the guy that makes the kit and I will probably do it myself..

AXMDR787BOY 10-02-03 07:10 PM

Who needs a kit? Learn how to weld steel or find some one who does...
BTW a friend of mine is build in a 4 rotor out of two 13Bs for his third gen... I'll let you know... A 5 rotor is just stupid...If you got it to run, what would you put it in?

montegorx7racer 10-02-03 09:08 PM

So maybe it isnt everyones favorite swap and maybe i can do a 20B for the same price BUT i have quite a few buddies running 800+HP out of there 2JZ and they are daily drivers...That cant be said about to many 13 or 20B motors...if someone can give me some more info that would be great.

2jz

alex at SP will wire your car up drop it in and everything to get it running and driving for 14K not 6 figures.

that price is with u supplying him the 2jz, he will do the rest

nxt774 10-03-03 09:31 AM
