a friend of mine (red87tll) is working on one, I made all his mounts for him. It isnt a real easy swap, you ahve to cut the firewall to get the engine in the right place, but it is doable

FL 1jz

you DON'T need to cut the firewall! LOL 1jz is a more reliable than 2jz or 7m. One of my friends has a 1jz in his fc with 500 rwhp on stock block fcd and apexi safc single turbo.

Oh snap.

Glad a read this thread.

I was hella worried about weight balance.

In terms of cost with the jz swap, i found the non vtak (It's all vtak to me....******* variable valve timing bullshit) versions to be cheaper. The 1jzgtte and 2jzgtte motors cost about the same but most are coupled to an automatic.

Shipped to the front door, a jz motor with all the bells and whistles coupled to a 5 speed transmission will cost about $2600.

An engine alone for aroung $850-1100.

The www.2jzswap.com swap kit with all the "gorilla work" parts is $1500.

So if you're really, really really crafty, the swap can be done for about $4k.

If you're really lazy and hate headaches, about $5,500 which isn't bad all things considered.

If all goes well, i will be ordering a jz/5speed swap next year and buying the kit parts little by little. It looks very worthwhile and a great alternative to a v8 swap. Reliable power, great sound, good mileage and best of all, PEACE OF MIND.

I"m going to rotary hell when i die. Especially b/c of my screen name.

I don't see how you ended up with 51/49...are you using the huge tremec 6 speed transmission to put more weight behind the firewall?

haha, dont you have another thread asking abt a KA fc?? you should change your screen name to YESpistons haha.

anyway, this is a hell of a good choice for a swap, 1j or 2j if you have the $$. the one question i have for those of you who have done this swap: exactly how did you get this long *** motor to fit under an fc's hood?? i saw a thread where one guy cut his hood so that some of the jz's timing cover was exposed and ive hear of ppl banging the **** out of the firewall and tranny tunnel, cutting the firewall, lowering the front subframe, etc. how did you guys do it and how hard was it because from what ive read (and i could be wrong) thats the toughest part to this swap is just making it fit. thanks ahead of time

There was an fc on craigslist that had a 1jz swap in it. It was here in the Sacramento area in Ca. Looked bad ***! Good luck if you decide to go that route!

yeah ive seen a few Fd's with the swap, and these guys claim its freaking awesome, and have only seen 1 fc on youtube with the completed swap. I've spoken to Chris over at Tech2Motorsports, has owns an fc with a jz swap, daily driven, SCCA. He doesnt regret it one bit. I'm already 6k In to this project, of course that includes many upgrades along the way, but i'm pretty excited. It's on hold because I'm currently in Okinawa Japan till the end of March

oh with the swap kit from tech2 there is no cutting of the fire wall or tunnel. Of course the jz long *** block is tucked right up against it but I'll post some photos. Its clean, very clean at that. It was rather simple. I raised the car and bolted the crossmember to the engine, then dropped the car on to the motor. the kit comes with a shifter extention new tranny mounts, bolted right up. and the aluminum drive shaft was a perfect fit.
