Wheel centercap

1 Attachment(s)
I obtained this wheel centercap a while ago. Tried putting them on my Almex wheels and it didn't fit. So I'm thinking of getting a machine shop to make copies and making them fit by machining them down.

But does anyone know what they were originally for? Anyone want copies of it if and when I try that?

this type of cap was not attached to the wheel it was pushed on to the
hub which had rubber bands around it to grip the cap.
my rx2 still has these bands on the hubs and i have 3 of the 4 caps that came with the car.

I just need the rubber rings...any ideas?

the hubs on your car do they have the groove for the rings?

Maybe run a bead of silicone seal around the hub protrusion and let it dry so that it holds the cap when it's pushed on? Just a thought.

i was going to say if you do have the "hub protrusion " that i would use windshield urethane or really big o rings. the o rings would be the best choice if you could get them fat
enough.

anyone want to offer up a picture of this hub and rubber bands?

I'm confused and tired!

if my car was not away in storage i would take a picture.
all i can say is there is a lip where a rubber band fits on the hub.
on the front it you look where the cap is that covers the bearings in the hub
just in from that (on the out side) there would be a groove in the metal for
the band, some cars had it some didnt. if your car came with hub caps then this
will not be there.

Yup, there is a rubber band in the hub. I may have them. His other source would be to find a FB with steel rim not the X-style.

The same hub came on the RX3.

When I change rims the original hub mount - with the rubber ring- would not work! I turned a wood block to fit the hub from the back side of rim. It all jammed together with a little silicone. No wood visable, light weight, lasted for years.

Mmmm... wooden car parts....

But seriously... Here's a pic that shows the hub protrusion and the rubber band on a RX4. RX2 and 3 are similar.

Thanks guys.

So the little bugger just fits over that mound? Hmmm. That's pretty cool.

Anyone want it? If not I'm going to make it into an egg cup.

Mound? You're not talking about the little silver grease cap are you? The cap does fit over that, but the grease cap isn't what holds it on. Just trying to be clear.

I've got a set of four of those egg cups I'm gonna sell on eBay. They're pretty nice ones, too.

Tranquil 03-14-06 09:14 PM

Yeah, I understand.

Its the rubber bands that hold it on if I read correctly.
