Transmission Selection for my RX 2
Okay,
Doing a turbo conversion into my RX 2, and need to decide on a good tranny that will handle roughly 400-500RWHP. I wanted to stay away from the TII tranny, because I have heard that I will have to bash the shit out of underbody to get the tranny(Starter) to fit. is this true? Anybody have any suggestions? I want as little body modification as possible, and it must be a 5 or 6 speed. I know that I can use a supra tranny, but do not know what year is best to handle the power. Can anyone tell me? Budget: 50 to a 1500 depending on what I am getting into. David |

Here is what someone has said so far.
supra turbo tranny from the mid/late 80's that use to go behind the 7mgte. |
whats wrong with a little light relief to make it fit?
I had rx5 boxes (fundamentally the same as the TII) fit my old rx2 fine. So depending on the model of rx2 and how you mount the engine all may well be good. TII trans will run down the quarter in the low 10's with repeatability. (a777, ajc13b, etc) Considered an auto? An Aussie guy ran a 9.5 with a rx2 Jatco 3 speed.... (20b, rx3 - converter issues so no launching on boost over 1 psi.... ) it has, however had a *bit* of work done to it.... Manually shifted it - a poor mans sequential box! Come to think of it, a local hill climb racer hand shifts his 2nd gen auto and was leading the state championships at one stage. Think yourself lucky, we aussies have the steering box to contend with in a turbo install |
