Tranny info needed.
Im now building a kit car and doing a mid rear engine rotary. Id like to know if anyone has done one and what Transmission you used and where did you source your adapter from? VW tranny I think would be too weak (Im shooting for (350 hp) and Im not looking at dropping 3k on a hewland.

yeah, the VW trannies are good to only maybe 250whp on the upper end and clutch size is limited to even smaller diameter than an n/a clutch. had one just go out in a turbo sandrail with a S5 stock turbo.
i doubt you're going to find anything reasonably priced though, not to mention dropping another $1k on an adapter/starter. |

you could look into gear sets for the vw/porsche boxes, they may have some cheap hardened options. |
There are plenty of VW's putting out at least the torque you'd be putting through it. I'm not sure what the Kennedy adapter costs, but I don't think it's THAT much. Off the top of my head, I'd call down to VW Paradise in San Marcos and see what they have to say. Unfortunately, by the time all is said and done, you may be in that $3k range...

you put mid rear , is it a mid engine swap or a rear engine swap ?
|
S4 and S5 rx7 are front mid engine because the engine sits in front of cabin but behind front strut towers. This kit car has the engine behind cabin but in front of rear suspension which makes it a rear mid engine car

Kennedy designed and built a couple of Rotary/Subaru adapters for me years ago, price was very reasonable then, but I don't know it they still have the pattern for it. The Subaru transaxles will certainly handle the power.
