RX3 coupe trunk floor replacement
Hello, is there a place where you can buy reproduction trunk floor / spare wheel bays for a 74 Rx3 coupe, or is there another model / make of vehicle that has a similar sized spare wheel bay which could be welded in place of the current rusty one? Where is the best source of spare parts in USA for door rubbers, windscreens, engine parts / tuning etc please?
Appreciate your feedback. I have some work ahead of me. Thanks |
Have fun with your project Rob.

I am sure I will Mel. Would likely be a lot easier if we were neighbors :-)
Took your advice and got some FC door rubbers... Cheers

Does everyone just cut the spare wheel bay out and leave it, or bondo and paint?

the 1st gen Rx7 has a really similar spare wheel well, and for that matter the 79-83 626/glc's probably have a trunk floor that would work too

Thanks. That looks close, even a similar color, but pick up only and it is a long way to swim. Maybe Mel can let us in on some of his wisdom :-)

Rob, trust me, I feel your pain... truth is, any good body shop can fix this for you.... the trick is to find someone who will do high quality work and be fair, and honest with there rates. Asking on here is a great start. Im kind shocked that some of the locals havent given you a hand full of names by now. I would also advise you to attend some local car shows, talk to people with nice paint and body on there cars.... word of mouth is great!! and you can also find out the ones to avoid! good luck buddy

Cheers, I thought some local guys would have some friendly advice too? Just trying to bring back a good old RX3 to the road. Some folks would consider parting out, but that would be a shame and I don't want to do that. I will keep working on it which is fun and if you have any more advise, I would be glad to hear it. Thanks.
Actually you may want to try a muscle car and classic shop , I took some parts for my rx3 and the owner was very nice and they did an awesome job, they actually where talking about the wankel engine and stuff they knew about. The owner owned an rx2 back in the 70s he talked about the RX3 as well. He walked me around the shop, an amazing shop loved It, I think you should try looking for a classic shop they love all old skool projects. I send some email pictures to their fabricator and got an instant response, Im doing some work that I think I can managed but Im taking them my DOORS,FENDERS AND NOSE , I want them looking good . |

someone really should be making aftermarket trunk floors, I am sure they'd sell out.

A bead roller and a donor wheel well would solve this issue. I made new floor pans for my RX2 this way

Thanks, great advise and good luck with your project too. I have a couple of customizers I have spoken to for trunk floor, so hopefully that will be sorted soon and then I can get into the rest of the car :-) someone really should be making aftermarket trunk floors, I am sure they'd sell out.
