Rx2 Charging System Questions

I have a 73 Rx2 with a 12a from a FB, well when I got it the Charging system never seems to work right. It only has the one wire on the Alternator connected and nothing on the other 2 terminals. I dont know if this is correct or not. I can seem to see a harness plug that would work on it.

Well I had the Alternator checked at Advance auto that came with it and they said it was bad. So I went ahead and replaced it with a FB alt that I had and thought it would fix it and it didnt. So now it doesnt charge at all still. I know the battery is good too as I have tried 2 of those too. Im gonna check all the cables and probably just change all of them also to rule it out as some of them arent the best looking.

It seems that maybe it needs to have a voltage regulator hooked up id think?

I'm looking at my 73 Wiring Diagram, and I see five terminals on the externally-regulated alternator. There's FNEAB on the alternator, FNEA being on one plug, B being on the back. F (White/Back),N,and E are used, E is not, and B (White/Red). At the regulator, you've got NAFLE on the regulator, so three wires run between the two. I THINK it's a cad-plated box on the firewall or on the black wiper cowls. The diagram doesn't call out all the wire colors, but the terminal labels (FNEAB and NAFLE) at least tell you where each wire goes.

Edit - Nevermind - just saw that your regulator has been removed from the car. Did the other thread help you out regarding putting a new alternator in an old car?

Yeah well I pretty much know why it wasent working now, nothing was hooked on the Alt. except the battery lead. So now I just need to find a 12V switched wire to hookup on the terminal of the plug on the Alt.

I had the same problem

I had the same problem with mine. I took it to the shop and they hooked up a voltage regulator and a harness plug. It seems to work now

Yep I hooked up one wire on the alternator last night to the where the positive is on the coil and it works now. Im only getting 13 or so for voltage but its deff. charging now
