Rx-8 Omp?
Does anyone know if the renesis uses an Oil Metering Pump? I read somewhere that it doesn't, if it doesn't how does it lube the apex seals etc?
In my opinion it should have premix to save headaches Thank you for looking or posting:) |
Using premix in the gas is a very bad idea, as the average consumer is going to forget about it or wouldn't put it in right. Mazda is trying to market this car to a very large audience and such an act would reduce sales. I imagine they're using a very efficient OMP system or a dedicated oil reservoir system in the engine. This would lengthen oil change times and reduce headaches for that person who thinks it's ok to go 5000 miles before an oil change.

I know that premix isn't going to happen but I can dream

For some reason i see people running synthetic and complaining about how crappy the rotary is.;)

I can see a serperate resivour. I'd actually like to mod my 7 for this.

Looks to me like there will be an OMP of some sort. I have a picture of a Renesis cut in half and you can see the hole for the oil injector bolt. I don't know if this photo will be representative of the final product, but at this stage, it looks like we'll get another OMP...
If I could figure out how to make an attachment, I'd post the pic here... :( Brian 87 TII 93 R1 |

I am not sure if the production version Renesis motor is going to use what kind of set-up.
I do know in the earlier Renesis models, Mazda was going toward a dry-sump oil system, similar to the 911. Which helps make the engine more compact, but becomes a bitch if you're doing oil changes. I have no clue on the OMP however, but if Mazda continues with the dry-sump oil set-up, yeah, I'd have to bet they'd be using something different. |
