RX-7 Manual Transmission Project

Howdy all, new member here with a few questions concerning the capabilities of the manual boxes found in the RX-7 (the Turbo II is what I'm told I should be looking for).

While I don't own an RX of any flavor, I'm desiring to mate a manual transmission to my V8 Mercedes. I've long desired a manual in that car, but sourcing the bits and pieces AMG used (Getrag 265, plus a bellhosing design to bolt it right up to the M117 [which someone I know has the plans for, but won't share because he wants to generate profit for his business, understandably so, I guess]) is time-consuming scouring the planet for that stuff. I don't expect this to be a weekend project, but I do want to get it done in a reasonable amount of time with minimal downtime on the car.

Other options include Supra transmissions (outrageously expensive, along with a T56 or anything like that), as well as the T5 which tops out right where that European-spec V8 runs (228HP/299lb-ft). North American motors were hamstrung by reduced compression ratios and a more restrictive top end.

At any rate, someone suggested the transmission out of an RX-7 Turbo II. My questions are as follows:

1) How much torque can these boxes handle?
2) How much will one run me?
3) Assuming rebuild kits are available, are there also kits offering stronger internals?

Thanks!
