RX-2 Suspension advice

I've come to realize that my front suspension is all jacked up. I have an aftermarket coilover front strut setup that looks like this:

There's a very narrow coil springs that sit inside my strut spring perches and they're about 3/4" too short (the springs rattle like crazy over speed bumps). I don't even need a strut spring compressor to get it apart. They each sit on the same standard hollow threaded insert as anything else, but of course nothing actually seats in the perch. I took everything apart to rebuild my hubs and paint the struts, when I found adjustable Koni strut cartridges.

The Konis are rebuildable, though it'll cost some good change. I have the option of shortening them at the same time, which would allow me to keep my half-assed springs. Is there another good option here? Is there another car with similarly-sized coils that I could find an adjustable setup for? For all I know, these came out of the Honda corner at NOPI and have no business on my 2.

For two years I thought I had a nice adjustable setup (it does look good) and haven't looked at alternatives. What are my best options?

^ yeah...for a million dollars!!! (over $3000 from SelectMaz). The way you are going will work....I am installing MR2 adj. inserts in the fronts, but using a spacer intead of cutting the housing. I also need longer springs, the G/C setup have them too short...10" freelength is what I will use, probably 250lb.

If you want a setup like the SelectMaz but cheaper, PM Jesuscookies, he just got his in, made in Florida, with Bilstiens...its ******' off the hook!

Well, JC, chime in and tell us what's up with your Bilstien setup.

Current thoughts are that I can pay through the nose to rebuild my Koni setup and shorten the strut in order to keep the front from rattling on every damn pothole. If I don't take a die to it to cut threads further down the shaft, I'll just machine a cup with a decent flange to replace the thrust washer in the upper spring seat.

That will allow me to tighten down on my too-long strut cartridge and at least slightly preload the spring. The other idea is to look at alternative cartridges like you have, Jaime, with a shorter stroke and space them up in the housing.

Why the MR2 inserts?

eibach makes many different length springs and near infinite spring rate choices. Are yours the standard 2.5" springs? Any parts numbers or other markings on the springs? How long are they " wise.

Crit, although my setup looks really puurity, it's not quite done yet. I will post pics of everything, once I am done. It's basically a duplicate of the SelectMaz suspension set up, without the 4K SelectMaz price tag.

The Koni's for the 2 can't be rebuilt....so Jeff at the center measured the stroke and found the MR2 insert to be very close to that of the Rx2 insert. I will run a spacer, but I believe the spacer will be shorter than the Illumina/spacers I'm using. More travel....plus if I get the G/C cambers that add an inch more travel, and fab up those bump steer spacers...the front should be killer when low enough.

I want those rears!!!!!QA1's or whatever....where were they purchased? Rebuilding and turning my rear Koni's into adjustables will most likely be near the same price as those QA1's....I recall the Paradise setup at $499. Rebulding Koni's are $115 ea. + 100 to make them adjustable.

Thanks for the info. Looks like they are for a mustang (DR9855B) and they are single adjustable. You can also get the dual adjustable (seperate rebound and compression adjusting *****) for the hardcore people.

compressed height of 15"
extended height of 23 3/4"
recommended ride height 18 1/2'- 19 1/2"

I'm probably going to get me a set since they can be revalved and rebuilt.

From the 410 Area Code it looks like somewhere back east in the Annapolis, Baltimore, Salisbury and Eastern Maryland area.

A few years ago I bought my adjustable system from Ground Control. the number was 916-638-0220 but is probably changed by now in Rancho Cordova, calif. The cost then was cheap compared to anything from Aussie land. I hope this helps oh my car is a 72 rx2.
