I wondering if I could put a rotary motor in a 88 camaro. Can anyone help me or know of anyone.

You're not going to savage your GXL for your "project" are you?

black99 09-09-02 09:58 PM

Depends on what you want from the car and how much you got to spend. It'll probably cost alot.

Plus you have to figure if it's worth it or not. I could put a lawn mower engine in a car but that doesn't mean it's worth it..

Personally I think there are better motors and cheaper alternatives to be thrown in(big CI's)..

Now I have fucking heard it all!!

This is officialy declared a....Flame ZONE! Watch out you could start another wild fire for those poor people out in the north west! (J/K) But I have to say the mullet one was good.

peejay 09-10-02 03:46 PM

Anything can be done. Camaros actually aren't bad chassis to start with.

I'd have a minimum of a 13BT in there, though. That way you can have as much power as a smog-choked 305

antiSUV 09-10-02 08:28 PM

The one guy in my town who's really into RX-7s and has several of them...Well he also has a huge mullet. So figure that one out.

protlewski 09-11-02 08:13 PM

MULLET attack!!!!!

Thats weird a rotor head with a beaver living on his scalp.

BogusFile 09-12-02 06:55 PM

You know there was a rotary powered mustang.... in the late 60s I beleive.

on another note.... why in gods name would you bother putting a rotary in an 88 camaro? What is your reasoning..... is it for spite??? Well sure it can be done by any competent individual. But the fact that one would ask such a stupid question forfets any mechanical abilities..... so now the question is, "can you do it", and the answer is obviously no. In conclusion, you my freind are an idiot..... are you posting drunk???
:D

grinn253 09-12-02 07:15 PM

flame me i guess, but i think that the rotary in his camaro would be another interesting conversion...
with the larger engine bay size, even the 3 rotor would be conceivable...
Maybe this aerodogg, is some kind of rotary fanatic and wants a rotary in all his cars?!? Perhaps he has a blown engine...or even the v6 in the Camaro, and has time, interest, to take on the project.

I say it is cool that he is trying to put a rotary in a Camaro...on the subject, how about a 13BT in the AE86--that would deffinetly rock!

Laters,
Edgardo

BogusFile 09-12-02 07:30 PM

Yes a 13b in a toyota AE86 is cool.
A 13b turbo or not.... hell even a 20b in a camaro is lame. Why waste a perfectly good turbo rotary on a 3rd gen camaro..... Aside from that, you could build a perfectly good small block, or big block for that matter for thousands less and have shitloads more HP and reliability. The camaro weighs in at around 3K to 3400 pounds depending on the model of camaro.... Fact is that the rotary engine just isnt very suitable for cars over 3K pounds, with the cosmo being an exception.
Rotary in a camaro hah! Investing that kind of money into a car that is only worth 3K dollars tops is illogical and nobody will want it because it will be slow. On top of that the sound of a rotary will not compliment the looks of the 80s camaro.

Rx-7Blazin 09-13-02 09:04 PM

i think its cool he is trying somthing biff but i dont think that camero would have any get up and go it woul be kinda like a 4 cyl the car weghs to much for that engine

MadMaxine 09-13-02 09:39 PM

fear the mullet

rxrotary2_7 09-15-02 09:40 AM

this thread is not a flame zone!

although i would never personaly do it. let someone try what they want.

i believe you are wrong. it never went into production, just like the other cars that were "going to get them".
if i am wrong, please back up your claim. i would like to see, but from my memory, it was going to happen, but never did.

BogusFile 09-15-02 04:15 PM

I never said it was a production car....
There was a rotary powered mustang made by ford.
It was a concept.

Check out some of the links on the bottom.

Thats one cool mustang.

You know if they had made that a production car I would have liked the mustang.
If the car had a manual trans' it would have dusted the V8 'stang.

Very good question. It is a well known fact that Camaro's are hillbilly sports cars.

xfeastonarsex 09-20-02 01:04 PM

There was a rotary vette, didnt work out tho. I think only one made.

Thats an ignorant statement, not unlike one that a hillbilly might make about a mazda. Duh huhuh what'r u running a weedwacker motor in dar?
Camaros are good cars.

peejay 09-20-02 08:12 PM

Hillbillies can't AFFORD Camaros... they spend their money on trucks and 10' satellite dishes :)

Most people with Camaros that I've met are rather well-educated, non-hillbilly type people. Go out in the sticks and you don't see too many Camaros, just acres and acres of trucks...
