The return to old school

I got a new project... My new 75 Rotary Truck. Its been a long time since my last one and after searching off and on for a couple years i finally got this. Yeah it needs a little TLC, but nothing a little elbow grease and bloody knuckles cant fix

Does it run?

Very nice, it looks very original. :) Does it run?

BASTARD 05-13-07 12:10 PM

yeah I am pretty excited, It does run :bigthumb:, however the oil was a quart low and it had a brand new water pump on it... I couldn't drive it because the gas tank was removed and sitting in the back of the bed, the guy had a 2 gallon jerry can in the passenger compartment with a fuel pump and fuel lines running thru the firewall :lol:HAHAHAHA. so we will see if the motor is good or not once i get it drivable

So my short term goals are to get the gas tank dipped, cleaned and bolted back in. New hoses all the way around(fuel, coolant, heater and Brake)

I will do minimal bodywork for now and primer the whole thing black

It needs interior in a big way as the seat is completely tore up, door planels missing, floor carpet is gone

It has the typical steering slop, so i will replace the idler bushings and would also like to retro power steering on it, hoping an FB pump and box will do the job

Long term goals are to restore this truck to a point were it is really clean and super reliable. I would love to be able to drive this on road trips without worry...I will pull the body and clean the whole chassis. Replace all bushings, shocks, paint etc... and in the end I would love to repaint it the original red

Don't know if any of you guys noticed, but it's automatic  so it will be interesting to drive it, see if it is worthy. My brother had a RX4 with an auto tranny and it ran pretty damn good.

Nice find. I like the tire size and the wheels. Anymore info on them? Mine is an auto also with an empty engine bay. It will also recieve a frame off restoration once I complete some other projects and get them out f the way. Good luck with your's.

thx, As for the wheels and tires... The fronts are 14" stockers and the rears are some 15" Chevy truck wheels. I haven't had a chance to figure out what model they are from yet, but i will take a few measurements next weekend as well as get the actual tire sizes

Not bad at all... Now comes to spend the $$$ :)

BASTARD 05-18-07 05:23 PM

There is a little bit to the story.

I called the owner of the truck… he said it was running like $h!t and that the points needed to be adjusted… he was going to have his mechanic friend who knew rotaries look at it.

When I show up, the both of them are there; his mechanic buddy starts talking up a storm about rotaries…blah blah blah….

After 15-20 minutes it dawns on me who he is…. back 20 years ago when I was in junior high school my older brother worked for him in his Honda Mazda Subaru repair shop… I didn’t even recognize him at first… so I end up BS’ing with him for about an hour or so about the old days …

Anyhow to make a long story short, He says the guy will take 700… I look him in the eye and tell him it’s only worth 500. (The truck is parked on the street and will be towed in a matter of days)… I start walking to my car…he goes and talks to the owner… and as I am getting into my car, he comes running over and says he will take 500 :D
