RB 12A Aluminum Housings

I was wondering... (famous last words)

these are REALLY expensive. If you did have an ALL Aluminium 12A could you do some street or bride porting and other tweaks to get even more gobs of horse power or would you be left with a melting pile of ooz?

I realize that perfomance doesn't equal reliability, but what the best possible setup for a 12A using aluminum housings V.S. using standard housings, is it good for that added (or subtracted weight) advantage in cornering?

How does one get a 12A to exceed it's factory Redline, how could you make something virtually bulletproof?

Whats the best approach to tackling something on a budget of about $5000?

Sorry for the long post, I'm sure there are FAQ's out there, but I am really courious about the subject.

eek I thought I posted this in another area... I guess someone will move it.. sorry bout that.

Hey does anyone know if aluminum housings for a 12a are available from anyone else? (And maybe LESS money?)

No they are not avaliable from any where else. The best way to bring the pwr band up to higher rpms is to go with some big porting and a good intake, once this is done in order to make it reliable it needs to be balenced, hardened gears, light flywheel etc. and oil mods.

I though the RB ally sideplates were blank with no side ports for PP aplications

I think you can get them either way. I saw them when i was down there last year, they are pretty cool, useful if you have unlimited dollars, otherwise not worth it.

how come mazda doesn't have these as a stock part on some of the higher performance model rx7's?

Rotortuner 07-08-03 09:03 PM

Because it was developed by racing beat with mazda for their boneville project. At the time mazda was in production they wouldnt want to have to go through all the R&D to get them in the cars. The side housings have been basically the same castings since the early 70's. The AL housings werent developed until the late 80's early 90's. Too bad they werent in the cars though...
