wheather it be points type or electronic, u really should change the front cover to a single dizzy.

Hullie 04-25-05 09:29 AM

How would you do that?

get the front cover and dizzy from a later model 12a and swap them out. changing out the dual points style dizzys for a single electronic one, along with the diamond coils, will give u a more dependable ignition system.

All that feed back is good, BUT, keep in mind that there are point coils and they are electronic coils, DON'T MIX THEM, then your thinking what the F### it puts out a spark a mile long it got to work

so whats is wrong with the twin dizzy?

I might eventually get a rx712a and put it n there and get the current motor rebuilt and upgraded. I am not sure yet. it runs strong, its jsut a pussy.

rxtasy3 04-26-05 12:17 AM

what's wrong with them? they're double the headache. why run points when u can upgrade to the better electronic setup?

Hullie 04-26-05 10:53 AM

Matt,
Let me know if you do change to a single dizzy.I just purchased a 73 stock twin dizzy RX2 and I'm already dreading having to tune the motor with those Damn Points.Last time I owned a Twin Dizzy I was about knee high to a grasshopper and I could not get that motor to run right! Either I have to learn how to Tune a twin Dizzy or change to a single electronic Dizzy.

how did you know if it was out of tune. i mean mine runs well, it kinda make a very slight grinding noise soemtimes while its warming up. but it idles real well, and sould normal. I will jsut have to see what Gambone thinks when he comes down tomorrow.
