Good Job Dave.

Are your bumpers and trim painted or powdercoated? I'm thinking about powdercoating my trim, and curious what you think of yours.

The nose trim around the grille is really thin stainless - did you do yours or just go without? Did you clean up the stainless around your windows and drip rail, or have they just held up well? I'd like to pick your brain regarding your trim.

Trim has been cleaned up. Bumpers were sandblasted and painted, as was the back light trim rings. However, it is all coming off. I have newly chromed bumpers, and rear light trim rings. The car has too much black right now. I think a little more chrome will be nice.

The front grill was and trim was sandblasted and painted. that will stay.

Well, I'd hate to blast my good chrome bumpers for something I might regret. I'd gladly borrow your black bumpers for a test-fit if you do change it. My rear stripe ends behind the bumper, so it's either gonna look great or horrible.

What did you do about the 4-piece set of stainless that lines the edge of the grille? Is most of the paint holding up well on the formerly chrome pieces?

Jay7 Nyc 12-11-07 02:13 AM

Very nice and clean build JesusCookies. I am thinking about building a RX2 also with a nice REW single turbo setup. Just sux that all the decent oldschool rotary cars are on the west coast. I've found a few on my side but they're all seriously expensive with lots of work and TLC needed. I may of found one in CA waiting on more pictures to make my decision. I'm thinking of going basically the same route you did with the rear end and suspension but maybe a nice mini-tub and 1pc spindles. Not sure yet I have alot of homework to get done...

Good job on the project she looks SWEET!

Jay7...

Crit, the paint has held up perfectly. The same thing was done to the stainless trim on the edge of the grill. No issues with it.

Car is finally up and running. :bigthumb:

I have a whole 175 miles on it. Steve Kan is coming in this weekend and will be dyno tuning the car at J&G automotive.

Hopefully, I will have some video of the tune to post up for you all. Unless I blow it up of course. :D

Siraniko 01-21-08 08:37 PM

Siraniko 01-21-08 08:48 PM

lol. are you using FB or SA side mirrors?

Jesuscookies 01-21-08 09:01 PM

FB power mirrors wired up in the center console. I can't see shit with em, but they look good. :p:

Siraniko 01-22-08 10:10 AM

I agree with the visibility especially when street parking. cant see shit. I need to find another set of SA mirrors. The chromed BMW 2002s will look good but Im a cheap ass.:)

MadChad 01-26-08 07:37 PM

ultimatejay 01-26-08 10:33 PM

Haha, not quite. Rene (61620B) did all of the exhaust from the turbo manifold to the tail pipe tip. 3 inch straight back, into a magnaflow midpipe, and then to a magna flow muffler.

Well, not so good. I had a ton of problems. I was unable to zero out the timing. Wiring for the haltech trigger was getting interference from the spark plug wires, so we rerouted. That fixed the timing problem. Once on the dyno though, we could not get the secondaries to come on. It kept breaking up at 3 or 4PSI. Steve was able to give it a rough tune at 10PSI and it put out 336RWHP.

Oh well, still more work to be done. The Haltech is going to Australia for a check up just to be sure. And, injectors are going to KG parts to be cleaned and flow tested.

99 problems.............

You will get there.. Best of both world builds like yours always have setbacks.. Dont quit like most people do...

Yeah, hang in there. You'll get it dialed in. 336 hp in your car will romp on most cars on the street anyway. :)

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I really need it at this point. I hate being this close, and feeling like I have forever still to go. The car is drving me bat shit!

And yes 336 will womp on most cars, but 430 at 1 Bar, which should be easily attainable, and 500 at 20PSI will be that much more fun :icon_tup:

At 500hp, it will be slower then 336whp.. you'll never get traction!! hehe

So was the spark plug wires the problem? Sorry wasn't able to get back to you with another haltech. Wasn't able to meet up with my friend till about 6pm.. figure it was to late by then.

Well good luck on the car, I think I will be picking up another rx-2 as well. Can't wait to see you car in action!

Hah, I knew you'd come around to your senses! Are you going to get another 4 door? I am pretty loanly out here with all these coupes around me. :rlaugh:

Castratikron 02-02-08 08:47 PM

keep up the good work man dont give up, cars always seem to take dumps on the dyno for no good reason just keep trouble shooting and it will work out for ya eventually. Its part of the fun anyways, once you get it done though im sure you will feel great. I always did when i figured out why the motor was crapping out on the dyno and not pushing the numbers it should.

I hope you got some nice wide tires though if your supposed to putting down 500=]

Jesuscookies 02-02-08 10:22 PM

Had a little time to gather my thoughts. :)

I am sure I will get it sorted, it is just going to take some time. I put it back on the dyno today with another Haltech that someone on the forum lent me. Right know it looks like my Haltech is the culprit. With the borrowed unit, the timing is zeroing out, and retarding as it should. I am sending my haltech back to Aussie land on Monday.

The secondaries are also a little rough around the 3500 RPM transisiton point. I could not even get them to open before, so again I think it is the Haltech. It may also be tuning, but just in case, I am pulling my injectors and sending them off to be cleaned.
