OMC Rotary Engine
This is my next project that i started . I got a couple of OMC Rotary Engines, this project has not started out well https://vintagesleds.com/bs/Smileys/default/angry.gifhttps://vintagesleds.com/bs/Smileys/default/angry.gif I took apart the first engine as you can see the housing is severely damaged. I'm not a happy man at the moment https://vintagesleds.com/bs/Smileys/default/sad.gifhttps://vintagesleds.com/bs/Smileys/default/sad.gifhttps://vintagesleds.com/bs/Smileys/default/sad.gif

The auxiliary air valve is a fatal flaw on these engines, if not remove this is what happens.

I finish off the tear down of the engine and clean up the main parts of the engine, the side plates are in good cond so is the E shaft and the rotor. One thing i notice on the rotor there is a blind rivet, is that rivet meant to stop the bearing from slipping out ? I think i will replace the rotor bearing as well and replace the apex seals. But first i will look around to find a used or new housing.

Good luck with the build. I had a few evinrude rotary sleds for a while. I rebuilt the engine in the one I used. They are a neat piece of engineering, but can be pretty touchy to keep running.

Thanks Buggy, what are your thoughts on the blind rivet inside the rotor? I was going to update my thread but looks like there no interest. there are a lot of lurkers out there.

I would assume it is there to retain the bearing in place as you said. I can't see any other reason for it being there. I may still have an old rotor kicking around for one. Ill have to look.

It seems a bit odd to have a blind rivet to retain the bearing in place, I mean once you press a bearing in it should stay in situ. Did you find the same in your tear down on your engine?

It does seem odd. I honestly don't remember its been like 7 years since I had that engine apart. I'll look and see if I still have an old junk rotor kicking around. I think I sold pretty much everything I had though.
