Has anyone got or seen one of these ogura wankel compressors? I have just bought one of auction site www.trademe.co.nz, in the hope I can turn it into an engine for 16 month old daughters little gocart I am building, Ill post more pics of it when it arrives but I just found this pic on google,

BENDER420 12-06-08 09:36 PM

I assume it would NOT have the torque needed for a small go-cart!
Cool little piece either way tho. What was its original use for?

aerosev 12-07-08 12:01 AM

Apparently it was out of a classic landrover, I have seen one of these in the flesh before and would estimate it too be about 30-50cc, Ill measure it up when arrives and work out the actual size, The gocart I am making is tiny to suit kids from 2-5 years old and I am using a 60s pedal car as the frame and was going to put a 30cc weedeater engine in it before I found this. I would guess if the pump can be turned into an engine it would produce around 2hp pretty easy and the whole cart will weigh less than 20kg so it will have a power to weight ratio of 1/10 about the same as a standard series 1 rx7 so it should be more than enough power for my wee daughter!

Well finally got home from holiday today and stripped the pump down and here are the pics, I can see Im going to have some fun converting it into an engine, I am going to have to make it water cooled, and make it run backwards to what it was as an ac pump, as the current ports in the rotor housing will cause it to flash over between chambers if I kept the direction of rotation the same, also there is no recess in the rotors to lower the compression so the current compression ratio may be too high for pump gas, so I may need to machine a recess into the rotors, I checked the displacement with a very thin plastic bag fulled with water and found it to be around a 70cc displacement so it should be more than enough to power my daughters pedalcar/gocart that you can see in the pictures, should be a fun little project!

man that is AWESOME..

I would buy one of those just to clean up and make a sort of Model or desk ornament...

but yours' is even more interesting..

how are u planning on making it into a motor?

will u add a spark plug, intake and exhaust ports headers intake mani etc?

will it be carbed?

seems like it's going to be a TON of work!

deffinately keep us posted on your progress

aerosev 12-27-08 03:06 PM

Yeah it will be a ton of work but theres not anything huge to overcome just lots of simple little problems to solve like blocking all the original intake and exhaust ports, making a new inlet port and channeling it so the airflow goes through the center of the rotor for cooling before entering the combustion chamber, making a new exhaust port, making a sparkplug boss, fitting an ignition system and a carburetor, the hardest part is cooling, I will probably either drill a lot of holes around the rotor housing on angles to allow water flow around the housing or the other easyer way of doing it is to weld a jacket around the outside of the rotor housing and with the side plates I might be able to use one of the old air passage ways as a water gallery, I need to have a closer look and nut it out, nothing too hard to overcome, it wont be perfect but it will be unique!

cool have fun

MadChad 12-28-08 07:47 AM

Neet idea, hope it runs. it should have plenty of torque just check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKayagHVCw8 good luck!---MadChad.

The link is not working. try to go to youtube and search Aixro XR50 .its a badass wankle kart motor the only problem its $5,000 US dollars.

I have got another single rotor project I have been working on myself, you can see it on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOsCU...e=channel_page

Back to the rotary pedal car the spark plug boss is done, standard ports have been welded up and the new exhaust port is almost complete, I will post more pics when the rotor housing is complete,.

well a bit more progress I have got some pics here of the exhaust port and spark plug boss complete, the exhaust port timing will be a bit early due to a though bolt hole being right where the exhaust port should be but it should be alright, also the old exhaust ports and small transfer scallops on the rotorhousing have been filled with weld and carefully restored the rotorhousing finish afterwards,
The extra sideplates ports have been welded in, note the transfer port to direct flow through the rotor for cooling on the right pic (the same as a sachs engine) and now I just need to resurface the sideplates and start doing water jackets and looking at an ignition system and carb, and we should be all go!

Subscribed!!!

This is going to kick so much ass.

Iam sure the torque will be fine!

Well done on the work!

solareon 01-22-09 06:05 AM

Yeah this looks like it'll be pretty sweet for a one off project. Definitely post a video when you get it running

Heres another post with a little bit more progress, the water cooling is now complete and also the carb is now fitted, Now I just have to take a tiny amount of the sides of the rotor to give me a bit more clearance and all the engine internal mods are done, from there its just fitting an ignition system and a pull start and Ill be ready to make some noise!

thats cool man! how often do these appear for sale, what year landrover did it come from, & did any other vehichles use them? Can I ask what you paid?

aerosev 02-20-09 06:37 PM

Im not sure what year the landrover was, I saw one for sale on ebay in Australia a few weeks ago of a holden 1 ton ute which I think was around the 1980s era. I paid $80nz for it which is around $45-$50 US with the current exchange rate, this one is p/n ow135 which means it had a pumping displacement of 135cc but you half that for use as an engine so it works out to be 67cc, they also made an ow100 which I presume is 100cc or 50cc as an engine,

any updates by chance? they'res one on ebay & it reminded me of this =]

wonder if it could have been fabricated into a supercharger?

Ogura compresor

A body good morning this is Ebenezer from Florida I been looking for one of those compressors found some of them but I couldn't get the money wire to the place for different reasons I am looking for 1 cause I'm working on a patten in order to get the geometrics of it in order to built a new 1 at my specs if you are willing I can rent from you or borrow from you or buy from you the compressor will be back in your hands if you like need to measure and come out with this specs in order to built a new one the way I want it if you're interested let me know you have a good day

Im still here just not that often, I sold this project a couple of years ago and it went to a guy in Australia, not sure if he managed to get it finished
