New Rx-8 And Posible Rx-7 With Larger 16c Engine
|
That looks like a Kia compared to the new performance coupes released by other brands like Toyota and Nissan.
|
I think it looks pretty sweet. Besides, Nissan and Toyota haven't even shown their new coupes yet. All we've seen of them have been test mules based on existing cars. Hyundai's new RWD coupe isn't anything special to look at. Unless you're talking about the current 350Z, which IMO looks decent, but nothing revolutionary.
I don't really see how this is a "Kia" in comparison. |
I think the car looks great from the side, the front needs some work, but overall the car looks great
The best part I think is the engine 16C |
Funny, the front is my favorite part.
|
i saw this at HIN in LA, looks very similar...??
p.s. cant seem to upload at the moment, will try again tomorrow while im at work..LOL |
cant wait to see the final product
|
engine sounds sweet, car looks like shit
|
if it doesnt have flippy lights it's not an RX7. sorry guys. NEXT
(but the engine sounds cool.. wonder what figures are on it and if i can put it in my gen1... hmmm...) |

I like the basic side shape
Hello All,
I like teh basic side shape. Not sure I love teh front end treatment. I am sure the production version will be more tame and I will love it anyways as I love all Rotary's. I have held off on the RX8 for reasons that I am not even sure. Guess I couldnt get one when it first came out and now I dont want to get one just before a model change or update is made. I her from my local mazda dealer that they were contemplating an AWD model but I am sure that will not happen and it would prob just eat way too much gaz. Anyway, if the new RX7 comes or that ends up being waht ever it is called with a Rotary I will get one. Hope its by summer of 2008 as my daily driver is gone by then. thanks Max |
For clarity's sake, popups haven't been banned. The EU has a spec on how much energy the skin of the car must absorb - if anyone wants to develop crushable popups then they'd be legal. Then again, they're more drag, more weight, more complexity, more cost, more swept volume in the car. For a feature that some like and some don't, I doubt we'll see anyone choose to develop popups again.
The EU spec has some other craziness associated with it - Nissan has a hood that's spring-loaded that will pop the trailing edge of the hood up and allow it to crumple, and Volvo's doing some crazy stuff. I'd hate to be a designer and having to work around laws like that. |

The article I saw about that on rotary news didn't really say anything about a larger 16c engine, anyhow it would more likely be called the 16a, right? Out of curiosity, where is this information originating from?
|
I like the 15A.
They've been promising us a new larger engine for what seems like years now. I'll believe it when I see it. |
LOL, I read an issue of SCC about 5 years ago where someone was talking about what the RX-8 should have as far as engines are concerned (mind you, this is before the RX-8 was released), and the guy mentioned an engine of slightly larger displacement and he dubbed it the "16C"!!! Thats funny how this is being named/dubbed the "16C" as well.
|
Especially when it might more closely resemble a 15A. Well, let's say 15B. :)
|
I like to believe that the 16C engine is in real development, but are trying to perfect the rotary engine as much as possible before releasing a new edition. I have a feeling since they're saying that the engine will no be the same size as the other engines, i'm really hoping it would be higher and wider. If the shape of the rotors say by maybe about 10mm all around, while still retaining about the same weight of a 13 rotor or so, that extra length would make the rotory engine produce more torque.
You can look at it this way a shorter vs longer wrench, the longer one can break a bolt loose easier than the shorter one. That is what I think is the future of a rotary engine. Also the whole engine does not have to increase lenght to increase displacement inside the engine as done between the 12a and 13b. Just my thoughts. |
The new engine is being internally referred to as the "long stroke". It is not just a wider engine. All of the dimensions have changed. It is 1.55L. Aside from that there are no other details. No one has heard or seen it yet. It is supposed to be in Tokyo at the end of the month.
It was pretty neat to see the amount of rotary engineers from Japan that were at MNAO last weekend. What was even cooler was the fact that they weren't there for SSX. |
Long Stroke ... hmm .. interesting word in the use of a rotary.
|
Seriously. Wouldn't you just have to enlarge EVERYTHING in either one dimension, long-wise, or two dimensions vertically and horizontally to increase any motion of any kind in the engine?
This seems to be a popular rumor, and one I'm fond of, but I don't see any real reliable sources saying it. |
Sounds like this new engine will be like the 21A, but smaller.
|
