New bugeye on list
 

I recently bought a 13b N/A powered AH Bugeye sprite. One pic for kicks!

Yay! I'm going to build a nice mild ported NA 13B for my MG Midget!

The trick is the rear end. I still have the stock AH rear and it has to go soon as I am sure any strong launch will snap axles. I am probably going to tackle a narrowed RX7 rear install this winter which will also get me rear discs! Gotta go slow if your gonna go fast!

DAMNIT!!! once again someone else has allready done an Idea of mine.

I get these great ideas for cars in my head. Then i find out later that someone has allready done it. My 1st idea was a rotary powered miata, allready done. Then it was a rotary spitfire, thats been done. Now a bugeye sprite.

What 13b engine did you use, s4 or s5?
That thing should be a 13-12 second car with just a stock engine.

put a 12AT in an opel GT. cuz it already has also been done in ford anglias...

I'm in Aiken, SC. The car was built in Rochester NY mostly by the PO. I've been wanting to do one for ten+ years ever since I watched one blow a bunch of kit Cobras in the weeds up at Carlise, PA.

I bought this one because the PO is also an SCCA racer and did a lot right. What I don't like is the carb as I plan on eventually street porting and turbo or super charging. I'm shooting for an eventual 280 to 300 RWHP in 1200 lbs!

The motor is a S4 13b, stock porting with a custom RB header and 2" open exhaust. Sounds like one angry Evinrude!

To NoviceRoTech: the idea is way past new dude. Like I said I first saw one over ten years ago and they ain't all that rare. Go to wirewheel.com a dealer who has sold quite a number of rotary bugeyes over the years. I just like this one because it still looks so stock. Until the guy back at the light realizes you are long gone and wonders "What the F was that?"

There has been one bugeye sprite at a local garage a few roads up from me the past few months. Its red, its a "rust bucket", no rotary engine though. But it was the 1st one Ive seen in person. Not sure what there doing to it, maybe a slow restoration.

You got or you plan to get 200 lbs off that car?
Ive looked up specs for that car, around 1400 lbs.
Im not one yet, to know how much one can actually take off (lbs) a car. But thats cool.

The weight is partially eliminayed by the engine tranny swap. The stock 4 banger and tranny are mostly cast iron and weigh quite a bit MORE than the 13b and tranny. The rest is mostly elimination of stuff and replacement of stock items with lighter components. Seats, wheels, etc. No heater box, no top or bows or window sills, etc. I don't know if I'll get all the way to 1200 but that is the goal.

Absolutely beautiful bug eye. Been a long time since I've even seen one on the road. Good luck with the project and post many more pics of evry detail, I like to drool.

There is an MG in the neighborhood for sale, B series I think, has the big rubber bumpers. I have thought about a rotary for that one, but have too many other projects as it is to take on another one. Has an asking price of 2400 on the windshield.

I saw Jeff's Bugeye in person Sunday; pictures do not do this car justice. The work that was performed on it are top-notch. Nice find!!!!!!
