Need advice on handmade hydraulics
 

Well, the brake junction on my firewall is gone. Some jackass walked off with it from my garage, with a couple inches of tubing and all the fittings screwed together. The car should be back from the body shop too, and the fuel and brake lines are near the top of my to-do list.

I'd like to run good hard lines for a fuel supply and return so EFI is easier to do later. I definitely need to run brake lines as well, but I have braided stainless lines for the fronts and rear axle. I expect I need a new brake junction (maybe w/ adjustable bias), but I'll need to bend and flare the tubing cleanly and don't know what kind of metric fittings to use when I connect to my braided hose. Is there a good writeup somewhere on making up new lines and where I might find the right fittings? Does anyone have another brake junction they'll part with?

My pal has a parts car sitting in his driveway I might be able to grab the junction off. Not sure if 74 is any different than the other years though. His is a 72 or 73 coupe.

If he's willing to let his junction go, please cut the tubing a few inches back so I can get all the fittings as well - it would save me a lot of extra looking.

Well, I'm having a hell of a time finding the fittings new. I've found the right zinc-plated mild steel tubing for the hard lines, but I can't find the coarse metric male fittings anywhere. If anyone knows where to point me, please jump in.

Old metric hydraulic fittings are a paint to find for us rotaries.

not really. find an old glc and pre-81 626 from junkyard or SA = same thread pitch.

I know I have an extra RX-3 proportiniong valve. let me know if you need it.

PAYDIRT, mi amigos.

Autozone has coarse metric-threaded hardlines, with two pretty fittings on each one. Buy a couple of lines for 2.09, cut the fittings off, and you're good to go.

PN AZ308 is the shortest and cheapest, but AZ312 and 330 work too. I bought a reel of bundyweld tubing (zinc-coated mild steel, 3/16 OD, 25') for a few bucks at mcmaster.com and think I have this whole hardline thing licked.

Y'all go visit your local friendly Autozone proprieter if you need old fittings.
