My new 72rx duece

5 Attachment(s)
I just drove my new 72 rx2 home. It needs alot of work but the body is straight and has very little rust. The whole front suspension needs to be rebuilt or upgraded. The rear is not that bad, but could use some new bushings. It's got a stocker 12a and a 5speed trans. out of a 79rx7. Engine runs pretty good. Also, the driveshaft center support bearing rubber mount is all torn up and is cocked to one side. Does anyone know where I can get one of these? I plan on rebuilding suspension or upgrading first, then body and paint, then 13bt. Any help on suspension parts, tips, ideas is greatly appreciated. Here are some pics. Let me know what you think.

Nice. Looks better than mine did when I first got it home.

You know, my carrier bearing support was blown all to hell, too. I picked up one from a REPU, but it would need work to get under the car. There are no replacements I'm aware of for the support, so you've only got two options. Either find a used one that's still in good shape, or have a 1-piece driveshaft made up.

Ditto. I got a one piece drive shaft. The only place I could find that would even attempt to rebuild my original center suport and bearing gave me a rediculous (high) quote on what it would cost. Never thought of using one from a REPU.
Later.

Thanks for the replies guys. So, what is everyone doing for suspension parts on these rx2's? So far I can't get any info other than it's impossible to find parts and you can swap first gen suspension. I would really like to know for sure what's involved in the first gen swap. I keep hearing diff. stories of camber issues, needing of shortening rear end to fit, etc. Does anyone out there know for sure what's involved and could you tell me please? Also, is there no one in the world that make new suspension parts for this car? I find it hard to believe. What about aftermarket suspension? Please help as I am going nuts. Thanks.

mmmmm puts on thinking cap.

I have a 5 Speed from a first gen in the car now. I have an LSD Pumpkin ready to bolt in. Does anyone know the shaft length of a RX-2 Vs. a first Gen?

Thanks, I'll check it out. You got me confused on the cheese thing though. Want to elaborate?

I have a dumb question. On my rx2 which headlights are the low beams and which are the high? Inner- outer. I think the wiring is all screwed up. When I turn on the headlamp switch nothing comes on, but when I put on the high beams the outer lamp come on high and the inner ones are on low. Somethings fubar. My turn signals are innop so I have to figure that out too. Doh!

Hey, nice RX-2 4 door. I was the guy who was gonna look at the car after you, if you didn't buy it. Congratulations!!! I have an RX-2 coupe right now, and I was looking for a reasonably priced 4 door, but you beat me to it. It's all good though.
About your headlights and turn signals being inop. I would first check to see if the headlamp connectors weren't crossed; as in the low beam connector being connected to the high beam connector and vice versa. Otherwise check your headlight switch contacts for proper connection.

Thanks for the heads up. After checking the lights out for a bit. I found both of the connectors for the inside headlamps disconnected. I am going to have to take the headlamps out and check everything. Someone seriously hacked up this harness pretty bad. I first have to fix the alternator- battery wiring.
