My 1974 RX4
 

Finally got my RX4 almost done. Its about 80% right now. It's been an 8 month weekend project. I am an oldschooloholic fool and this is my first rotary project. Its a stock 13B with a Cosmo 5spd. I did put a header, 2.5 piping using a 3" Magnaflow as a resonator and a 3" Racing Beat muffler. It is louder than hell and I'm still trying to get used to it. I did a GSLSE front conversion. FB booster and master/slave. I also have RE-Speed coil-overs camber plates and RCAs. I also converted to a 80 Celica Supra rear with disc brakes. So all fours are now 4x114. The wheels are Panasport 15x7 fronts and 16x7 rears.

I do have some issues with the 48IDA. I have read a couple of topics, but I'm unsure. I do have hesitation at 3000rpm and up. Feels like It needs more fuel at go. Below is what I have on the Weber:

E-tube - F11
A/C - 120
Main jets - 200-210
idle - 65F10
idle holder - 120
Venturri - 40mm

I already adjusted the float. I also have a F7 E-tube that I tried, but it seems worse. My fuel pump is set at 6psi. Does it look like I need to go bigger on the main jets or some thing else??

I'm almost wondering if those main jets aren't too big and you're over fueling it. I'm running like 200 main jets at 3-4 PSI on my 48 IDF with a half bridge 13B and it is still plenty rich. I'm also running bigger A/C jets up around 160-170 I think. If you have an O2 bung in your header try and get a hold of an O2 sensor or better yet a wideband and throw it in there temporarily to see what's up. Car looks awesome though. Still love the look of the older Rx-4's when they're dropped to the ground like that.

IIRC, you need to have a richer e-tube on a 6port with IDA, on top of my head, F4. thats the only difference on a tuning a 6port vs 4port. If I were you, keep your current set-up, use larger idle jets OR just drill them out using index/number drill bits. Also, did you perform any mods to that IDA that I recommended to you?

shouldn't the fuel pressure be like half that? seems like i remember reading somewhere that someone was running like 3.5. nice 4 btw.

Ya, fuel pressure to a Weber should only be like 3-4 PSI Max. My regulator was set at 7psi from the factory and fuel actually started to seep from the carb at that setting. Once I turned it down everything was fine.

Thanks all! I'll take everyones advice into consideration. Mel, don't worry I won't be sporting any RX8 interior soon. Haha. I'll do the Weber mods in the future.

Sweet looking 4. I've always liked them but have never owned one. I would try whatever Wacky suggests. I've done everything to my IDA that he suggested and it runs great now. Did you add a 3rd progreesion hole? That makes a huge difference.

Thanks, man. Dr. Wacky sure does know his stuff. The third progression hole and a fuel bowl mod will be in the works.

Well my jettings are OK all along I made the mistake of reversing the purple and green wires from the MSD to the distributor. Found that out while I was doing work on the timing. Now it transitions from 3K and up with out the bogs and hesitation. Again thanks all!!

What sort of front suspension struts are they?

Thanks, man. I got the complete front strut suspension from a 85 rx7 GSL. I took off the backing plate, caliper and rotors from the GSL and put in calipers, backing plates, and the rotors from a 85 GSL-SE RX7. Its easier of course if you can just find a whole front strut assembly from a GSL-SE, but I could not find a complete one. Then I just added the MR2 Tokico Blues, RE-Speed camber plates, coilover kit, and RCAs.

By 85 GSL do you mean first gen RX7 (sorry I'm not too familiar with US terminology).

The spacers under the strut make up the difference in strut height?

They look the goods and I suppose you would have more choice in shock and spring/coilover brands.

Looking nice migz. so when are you gonna install the rx8 interior?

nice that set up looks like mine, its in my 510 wagon but mines its from a 280 zx. they almost look the same lol.:lol:

Forgot you were in OZ. GSL is one of the models they came out here for the 1st gen. RX7 with a 12A 4wheel disc and LSD rear, but with a 4x110 wheel bolt pattern.
GSLSE of course was the 13B 4wheel disc LSD rear with a 4x114 bolt pattern. Later GSL models have the same size spindles on the GSLSE model. I just went this way since more choices on the 4x114 bolt pattern rims and bigger front disc.

The spacer or RCA levels the control arm when you lower the front.

Thanks, man! I am waiting for Wacky's seal of approval on the full RX8 interior overhaul since he is the biggest fan on that swap. :lol:

if you ever think of swapping to RX-8 interior, your engine will blow. rotary god will punish you lol
