Internal regulator

Any of you guys converted your old external regulated alternators to later model internals? Just curious of the wiring side of a swap.

I used a TII alternator with a short piece of connector that goes in the back. If not mistaken, I connected a 12-v ignition to the top wire to energize the field terminal. the lower, i just cllipped it. I retain the original thick wire and added another wire from the the alternator to the battery. Everyone got their own ways of doing things but I havent seen any problem.

You can use any up to 88 non-TII altenator and also get rid of the original fusible link and install the 80 amp from 2nd gen or 323. The only difference between the two is that the 2nd gen has more fuses in it.

My way was to connect the G light on the dash to one of the alt wires. The other gets power only when the key is on and [doesn't] go through the G light bulb to get to the connector. I forgot which wire is which, but it's not too difficult to figure out.

that goes to the lower wire on the pigtail. I should go to the choke relay which is located a few inches frm the original fusible link and battery.

I dont use it because I have an aftermarket volt meter plus a dual alternator belt system. But so far, I havent seen any problem with over/under charging.
