How to tell rx3 from rx3 sp
Ok beside the side decals, and all the obvious stuff. Is there any way to tell by looking at the vin# and plaquecard in the engine bay.
SPs dont have rear window winders (lighter weight) and have a factory 5 speed which has a diferent location of the shifter than the RX7s, this means any retro fitted trans will have a hole cut in the floor, can't help on the VIN sorry. They don't have an LSD so that wont help you.
Ok I know about the 5 speed but I didnt know about the location being diffent. I thought they all came with LSD, I guess I was wrong. and much lighter?
non SP's came w/ heavier and fugly looking bumpers compared to a much simpler bumpers for Rx3 SP. the tail lights are also square for SP
Beginning 74, all cars were equipped with big bumpers per the Fed's. The SP's came with louvers, 5-spd tranny, rear spoiler, short pinion shaft like the 1st gens (straight swap to a pre-83 3rd member), and the stripes.
All RX-3s that were sold in the U.S. in 1977 and 1978 were SP's. Some were plain and some had the "Appearance Package" that was fitted at the Port of Entry or by the dealer. 5 speed or automatic was available. If the car is not a 77 or 78 it is not a SP.
Ahhhhhhh......I wish I still hade my first car........78 SP. I am an idiot for selling it.
Anyways, I remember my seats having a plaid <(SP?) cloth center section to them, rather than completely vinyl. Not sure if all later cars had this or just the SP's. Won't help you be sure since they could have been added. Louvers on rear and side windows, Non-wind rear side windows, Trunk Spoiler, Front Cow Plow Spoiler, Square tail lights, 5 speed, Were the door handles blacked out from the factory?? -billy |
Wasn't there a difference in the rain gutters? I thought the SP's only came down halfway on each side of the windshield. (this is actually a question to clarify my memory so don't throw rocks at me!)
