Got the RX4 last night

Well, I got the RX4 last night. Had my oldest sons birthday party though so the transporter just left it at dealership where I work. I'll go get it today. I just briefly got a look at it in the dark. I'll take a few pictures this afternoon and post them. Since the car came from Dallas and I livew in colorado, I'm sure the carb will have to be re-jetted. I did start it up and while it started easily, it didn't want to idle very well. I will change the fuel, check the oil and such.
Oh well, I'm exited to get going on it.
Talk to ya soon,
Todd

Ok, I'll take some photos today. I had the car towed to the dealership where I work, yesterday afternoon, I went to go get it and as I figured, it had trouble running. It came from the Dallas area and we are several thousand feet of altitude higher. I got it to start but it wouldn't idle. And after a bit, it flooded so I had it towed to the house. Today I'm off work so I'll take some photos and then figure out how to re-jet the thing. I suppose it doesn't help that it's colder than hell today with blowing snow and lots of wind. I guess that will give me motivation to get the garage cleaned out so I can get the thing inside. Anyway, I'm off to get started.Talk to ya all later and thanks for the encouragement.

Ok, spent most of today trying to get it to run. This thing is really a mess on the inside. Its got a holley barb on it but only the primaries hooked up. the choke is not hooked up, vacuum line to the brake booster isn't hooked up. It's going to be a while before this thing runs. Looks pretty good body wise though. I'll get the pictures up possibly tomorrow. It still has the original spare rim and tire in the trunk, unused with tool kit.
I got the thing started but I need to do something with the carb. What size do folks put on it normally and who sells a proper linkage for it? Anyone got a good carb and linkage for sale that would work for it? I also need to research the proper jet size still. Another thing I need is one of those rubber bumper stops for the front. Man those things are ugly! Maybe I should just take those things off altogether.
Anyway, I think is the coolest damn thing! I can't wait to get it going properly.
Talk to ya later,
Todd

Glad to hear that your enjoying your car. :D

rubber bumper guards

If you think the ones on the '76 are big and ungainly, you should see the ones on the '74-'75 RX4s! I have a couple of the rubber bumper guards for the '76 though if you're interested. Good to have another RX4 fan on board! -WG

I've seen a lot of US-spec Rx-4 pictures where the owner just took those things completely off, and the car ends up looking just like the Japanese/Aus ones except for the little squares where the stops poked through. I believe the rear bumpers are the same as on non-US cars, and if you remove the rear stops, you'll just end up with little square holes in the valence panel.

I'm planning on removing these things on my car as well. Looks 50% better without them.

Hey at least you don't have a sedan or wagon with the humongo bumpers that look like a park bench.

LOL, good point! I'm just taking them off. Hey, those rims you bought are very cool. I'm pretty jazzed about the car even though the guy mis-represented it some.
Like I said in the beginning, I bought it mainly because it has a clean rust free body which in the toughest thing to come by.
The pictures will have to wait till tomorrow. Talk to you all soon,
Todd

Hey, one thing I forgot. In the glove box was not only the original owners manual but also a 1974 owners manual and a 1975 owners manual. Both are in perfect shape. If anyone needs one, let me know.

I could use a '74 owner's manual, myself. I have a lot of RX4 parts I could trade if you need something. -WG

E mail me your addresses and I'll send both of you the appropriate manual. I don't need anything in exchange right now. Just remember me for future considerations. I know there is stuff I'll need, just havn't figured it out yet. Thanks for all your help.

Todd if the Rx4 engine is ported, I would suggest using a 550cfm holley. Racing Beat out in California has many modified Holley carbs for any 12A or 13B N/A application with all the proper lingages. Glad to read you have a nice Rx4. Racing Beat site is www.RacingBeat.com
