When I said perfect...
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/n...ps99ffa018.jpg I may have stretched the truth a little bit... :icon_no2: Attachment 667533 Maybe a bit more then a little... :uhh: Attachment 667534 :burn: Attachment 667535 I could not pass it up for what it was, and it will now be out of the weather with me. So it is not going to get any worse, but its going to take a long time to get her back to legal road ability... |
Its a 76' if any one is wondering...
|
Nice, what are your plans for it? Do you own other old school mazda rotarys?
|
I'd find a cheap S4/5 Rx-7 and throw its 13b na into this car.
|
First old school rotary, and I have no idea what I can do with it.
My plans are everything from a RB aluminum block Carb'ed 20b with Rx8 rotors, to Supercharged 12a. I just got out and done with school, I am single, living at home not having to pay rent, and well I want to save up about 1k+ a month to just toss at her till she is show ready perfect. Seafoam Green, reupholstered Rx8 seats to look more 70's, antique gauges set in a AAA flame top maple, or a machine turned dash... the ideas are endless right now. Every time I think about it something new pops in to my head.

That is an awesome find!! Congrats!

That is some impressive trunk rust! There's a seller on eBay, elevenrussians, who has a rust free Cosmo in his wrecking yard. Prices are high but I just received a fender I purchased from them and it was in great shape. Might be able to pick up the trunk pan if he's willing to cut the car. Would save a LOT of work.
A nice EFI 20B on mild boost would be a great choice. That's what I considered for mine but ultimately decided I didn't want to build a beast. |
Nothing like 20b to push you around

Yeah that would seem like the coolest idea, and the most deadly. Seems like when ever someone tosses it around its a death bell on the project. haha But man would it go like stink. Hell a 20b with just ITB's be fun it. |

Even with the rust, getting one in that level of completeness is a big score. My only advice is to honestly ask yourself if you are prepared for what you are getting yourself into. Aaron's thread is a good place to get answers, even if you aren't going near his level of involvement.
Just sayin.... |

Also looking for 4x120 wheels is kind of slim at best. Guess could always get an 85' Rx7 and get the rear end, and steering from it an have atleast 4x114...
|
I would keep the key holes...not exactly filling out the wheel wells, but rarer than a hen's tooth and don't look bad to boot!
|
You know you'll need a GSL-SE for that 4x114 pattern, right? I'm planning to go at least into 2nd gen stuff for the Rx4, to really open up the wheel design/size/offset selection, and to keep replacement parts availability there. Potentially using the IRS also....
Only takes a couple things to do this kind of stuff, and theres never enough of either....Time and money.... |
awesome pick up!

Did the GSL-SE's have a rack an pin for steering too? I cant remember. |
Cool
Maybe a 3 rotor install with carbs? |

All first gen RX-7 where non-rack steering. You could put a second gen sub frame in and get the rack.

Aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh its so hard to save any money! But I am getting close to being caught up on bills. All I want to do it drive her! I sit in her every now and then just dream of that dash working... hmm so far away it seems.

I guess if the stock engine crossmember is eliminated and new mounts made. Still about 2" too wide though. |
Its been sometime! Not really much has happened with the Cosmo, but I did go through the rear end and it looks good. Turned the rotors, and the calipers cleaned up quite nice too! The wheels took about a week of work but look like new.
I made a mistake and I set a spare Fb dash in the Cosmo, and its the same length... its not as deep, but I think it could be workable. Now here is my idea I want to put the Cosmo dash in to my Fb. Blasphemy!!! Yes. I now it be a little work to make it work, but I think it would look trick. Also putting the rear end, and the bigger brakes off of the Cosmo too. Backdating everything a little, but it would bee keeping everything in the family, and I think the 7 would look awesome with those wheels/bigger brakes... but most of all I think that dash in there would just be the knees of the bee. Tell me I am crazy? Is this a good idea? Anyone think I should do it? The Cosmo the more I look under the paint the more, and more rust I am finding... and well there is a reason it is taking so long to get a round to anything. Its getting depressing. |
