Factory RX4 "GT"stripes
Does anyone have photos of factory "GT" stripes on an RX4 hardtop?
You guys in the States seem to get the stripes more often than over here in Aus This is like the one in the factory manual I did in MS paint http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/d...4GTstripe2.jpg |
Of the 8 Rx4s i have had I have never seen stripes like this, now we did have one that went down on the rocker. And I will go way out on a limb here and state that I have never seen any official literature or sales flyers or advertisements for the so called GTR. I am by no means perfect but I have an extensive collection of sales lit, owners manuals, press packets w/photos, period advertisements, and factory service manuals etc. I have repeatedly asked for any type of documentation on different Rx4 models. Could it have been a "dealer special" that you are hearing about yes, but the only dealer special that I can confirm is of rotary pickups and that was into 1978 selling the last of the 77s.
If you have a FSM or other book showing some cool stripes please scan the page and post it so we can possibly help you.(being in Iraq right now i can't flip through my collection to try to see which one you mean) i do know that somewhere i have pics of an Rx4 in a wrecker that had an aftermarket stripe that was very cartoon stylized but specfic to the rx4 and other "dealer" options or dealer installed stuff i have seen include the 70s typical vinyl roofs I have seen several of those. On a side note I really like the clean look you have given your Rx4 the steel rims painted black with the tirm rings offsets the dark grey of the body, IMHO it is a very classy way to stay true to the old school look of an original, are you going to put the lower rocker trim on it or leave it clean the way it is here. |
besides the point, that is some ugly ass design. a wannabee RX-2 and RX-3

Thanks Mel, you wouldn't happen to have any info on a GTR special afterall the special REPU was from a California Dealer as well...... I saw this link and all I can say again is as the article says... "no documentation" Mazda went to great lengths to advertise the Rx3-SPs.... I can't see the posted pics I will look at them tomorrow when I am not on an Army computer and hopefully they will help shed some light. Back on topic the rocker panel rally stripe is available from a couple of places I have a NOS original that i loaned to vintage rotary decals to copy and i know he has had some up on ebay lately.
