Cosmo Hood Struts

My cosmo's hood struts were shot when I received the car so I took on this project to replace them. Stock ones are not impossible to find but are difficult and pricey (from me looking for them). I have also seen where people have said that they have gotten them refilled but one of mine the seals were completely ruined.

I first used a Dremel to cut the rivet off holding the strut to the bracket.

Then drilled it out with a 5/16 bit.

I bought these 10mm ball studs and hood struts off amazon. I thought the studs were black but they are green.

I picked up some washers and lock nuts from lowes to secure it all together.

Hope this helps anyone with the same issue.

Not a bad idea, mine have been dead for a while too.

I tried hood struts from a 929 first. They use the same bracket but were too short. I ordered a few different sizes of them and these ones are just right to me. One set was about an in too long, opened nice and wide but wouldn't close. Another worked but it didn't open far enough for me.

Did the same thing with my hood struts but first set of struts I bought, while being the perfect lenght, have too much force/lift. I bought a 2nd set.

Once I try out the new set and if the gas charge force is proper (car is at Turblown) I'll post up part numbers.

I got all my stuff on liftsupportsdepot.com

That's where I got mine too, except off amazon. I'm happy with them, wish they had a little more force but hold up the hood with no problem.
