buying an rx-4 need help
 

Tried a search but couldn't find anything suitable. Wondering if someone could tell me what to look out for when purchasing an rx-4? If there is a relevant thread i missed just put the link

yeh, i have tried the ausrotary forum, what i'm trying to find out is any common problems on an rx-4 to look out for, ie common rust spots, or mechanical failures.
Again any help would be fantastic

um just make sure it is a genuine 4,not a 929 as it is relatively easy to convert these cars,look for the old piston engine mounts,dash etc if you are in doubt of its authenticity

basically, if you find one that still looks half way decent, get it right away. If it's survivied 30 years and still looks ok, you've got a good base to work with. It isn't like buying old Mustangs or something where you can be real choosy. There aren't many left, so unless it's a basket case, it's probably worth getting if a 4 is what you are looking for.

I have owned my 76 RX4 since 78, paid 2.5k4$ with 32k mi on it, The only real problems where the engine something we all know about and the after burner the plat in side came lose and blocked the exhust , took a little do to figger that one out. It's no longer stock, twin turbo/twin K fuel/2nd gen sport suspension and fun to realy drive, O I for got to add brakes and streeing where most poor that's why the up grade

The most common place for rust is in the rear lower fenderwell area. Open the trunk and stick your hand right down in the area between the outer body skin and the fenderwell and see if it's rusty down in there. There is a rubber plug in the bottom that allows water to collect from say, a leaky trunk seal. Also, if you're looking at a '76 or newer RX4, be sure that the front A-arms are not bent.
