787B Le Mans racer
Has anyone out there seen a kit to build this car or tried to? Has anyone seen one? I think it would be cool to have one of these monsters on the road maybe with a turbo three rotor or if mazda made a crank for a four rotor engine.

Uh...........No
|
Yeah, it would be cool but uh it's never gonna happen.
|
I will make it happen if it takes going bankrupt lol
I really do think it is cool though |
It wont happen, do you understand how sufisticated that car is? That car had millions of dollars into R&D and then at least a million to build it. The main reason why i think it would never be a good car to kit is because there would never be a kit car that would be worthy of bearing the name 787b. You need a lot more than just a 4 rotor crank to build a 4 rotor. The cranks alone cost over 2k. The engine that was used was all custom with only a few parts made extra.

Quite a few people are building 4 rotors around the world. Theres Glen from the UK who's building a 4 rotor Sprint car, The "Barbie" pink BMW and a couple more too.
Eamon Hurley in the UK built himself a 6 rotor based on a 12a but hasn't done much more than run it up on a dyno and rip the rear end out of the big America car it was fitted too ( I forget the make and model) A replica that looked the same externally wouldn't be hard to recreate and neither would the four rotor (several places in Austalia will biuld one if you have the $$'s) It would cost a fortune to build but it can be done. Autoexe racing were also selling their car from Lemans 2002 and that had a works 26B in it so its not impossible that you could even find a works engine to put in your replica. Mike |
There are kitcars that kinda look like a 787B.
I believe the Ultima GTR is the best known in the world. Ofcource it's built from cheaper stuff or else no1 would buy it. |
uhh wake up.

I actually saw a r 26b for sale one time... I forgot how much he wanted for it... dont know where he got it from... but finding a used r26b is kinda like finding a awd 1st gen... or a chevy rotary motor... or a duesenburg... you see one buy it... you will never see another one... and if you dont have the money you will regret not being able to get it for the rest of your life...

pass the "|" maannn ;-)
i bet my damn rx2 takes as much $$$ as the 787 to get going. |
It did have millions in R&D that is why it wouldn't cost that much, cause it is already researched
|
What are you talking about, to build a half ways descent replica is almost impossible without spending hundreds of thousands. It had a carbon fiber chasis and the trans alone is probably worth 75k. I bet none of you could even get the diemensions of the car let alone detailed R&D details. Just my opinion. I think any replica would be a dirgrace because it coulnt even come close to being worthy. I mean the cobra kits get pretty close but come one lets not kid ourselves.

The external dimensions are very easy to comeby ... those tamiya kits a very accurate ;) + why would it have to have a carbon fibre chassis ? you could use a spaceframe and skin it in fibreglass panels ... it is a replica afterall
