77 Corrola Liftback, Good Rotary Swap?

Hey, I got to thinking (that usualy gets me into trouble...but ohwell.) what do you guys think of me getting an Ugly Pea Green and Primer 77' Corrolla Liftback(wagon looking thing...) and Rotarizing it? Has anyone done this? How hard would it be with a Decent 12A or 13B carbed? I know a guy that might still have it and might sell it, so i wana know what you guys think... he wants $300...

its fwd i think. my buddy had an 82 and it was fwd it was a toyoto corolla tercel delux or the "tersweet" for short.

It's RWD. I wanted to rotarize one of those back in '91. I think it would be a very cool project. If I were to attempt something like that today, I'd have to tell whether or not it would be feasible before spending any money. If you think you can do it, go for it.

man, i really think that thing shoulda been rotary... almost reminds me of an RX3(or 4, cant rember wich one) well, i think that the only things that id have to do would be to get the 12A, then find someone to make some mounts and then ether use a 12A trans or make an adaptor plate or somthing... being that its carbed, i wouldnt have to worry about too much electrical stuff, i think it would be fun, but i dont have the cash to do it now, i may still buy it to do it later though...

Yo man check out club4ag.com there are a couple good write ups on how to do it, its a pretty popular swap.

well, ok... What does it take to do it... what kinda tools would i need... What will i have to fab and overall, How much would it really cost to fit an Un-Modded Wankle into that 77 Corrolla? Oh, and the only other thing im worried about is the eletrical... being if im swaping in a carbed 12A, that i wouldnt need much or any wireing... well, then theres the Ignitors and crap... Basicly, Ive Never even Pulled an engine before, how hard is this going to be?

I wonder how rare the liftbacks like this are? I might have to wait on this one(Im married, to my Wife and my FC)

the liftbacks aren't that rare, but N.C. they are hard to find not all rusted out. Now the rare one is the sport coupe. That would be a very nice one to put a rotary in. It looks alot like an RX-4. Very cool looking cars. The Liftback looks too much like a wagon IMO. But the swap shouldn't be hard. There are a million TE27 and TE31 corollas with rotarys in Puerto Rico and Florida. Call Tony Negron at the Racing Store. I'm sure he might even sell a mount kit for this. It's that common of a swap down there.

Heres what i have

Tools-welder. compressor, metal cutting tools, sanders, grinders, engine lift

problems i had so far

1 motor mount- fabed one from alum w/solid mounts
2 tranny mount- fabed one from steel and alum
3 tunnel to fit tranny. cut and raised 3 inches
4 shifter to far back- shorten the shifter tube on a 2nd gen trans
5 what rad- used a 79 rx7 perfect fit
6 wiring- easy used alot of stock toy harness
7 relocate oil cooler
8 driveshaft-custom driveline shop

you could move the motor forward and you wouldnt have to cut the tunnel but I wanted good weight distrubution so I slid it way back. Plus driveshaft would be real long or have to be 2 pcs.

It wasent the hardest thing to do but it is far from easy and be prepared to spend some time on it doubt you will do it in a weekend type thing.

I know of a bad ass sport coupe in Sacramento that's been sitting at a retirement home for the past 5 years. It's a bad ass car for that swap.
