'73 RX3 opinions

Hey guys, I am new to this and would like your "professional" opinions.

What do you guys think the value of a '73 RX3 in great condition would be? All original with the exception of the radio and an MSD ignition. It has LOTS of extras like engine parts and suspension parts. body is in great shape with no major rust. Just trying to figure of what kind of range to expect! Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. hanks in advance!!

Matt

Some people think there Rx3 is worth a millions dollars. On ebay there is one for $17,000.It's a lot when you look inside and where you see wires hanging all under the dash.

or maybe a RX-3 with 808 tailights. :)

nice but the steering wheel is for RX-3 wagon, console below ashtray is missing, thus there is no shifter console. Im not a fan of any rims larger than a 16" on any old school

did it come with a vinyl roof? looks silly without it and with the trim.

Mbcrisp 09-16-12 09:16 PM

Yes, it originally came with the vinyl roof. It was replaced several times and never seemed to hold up well so it was just painted. Considered taking off the trim as you said but just kept the two tone. Any questions you have I can answer since this car has been owned by my dad since it rolled off the boat in charleston. He has all the original books and paperwork and has enough engine parts to nearly build another.

same body, different wiring, different engine cross member, trans mount.i just picked up a 808 coupe with 50k on the clock.

^nice find.

the ones i've seen with vinyl roofs didn't go that far down the back. and urs don't have the vent molding that goes down by the rear class.

mbcrisp, did u not get my pm i sent u?

Mbcrisp 09-17-12 05:23 AM

The vents along the rear glass dried out over time

Mbcrisp 09-17-12 05:25 AM

The vents along the rear glass dried out over time, cracked and one fell off while going down the road. I think the other was pulled off and it is probably with the rest of the extra parts laying around.

Mbcrisp 09-17-12 06:30 AM

rxtasy3, I am still trying to figure out how everything works here. I will check it out and reply.

Everyone else.....any thoughts on a typical value for this car given the condition?

looks like a non factory adaptation. think it looks hideous. i say ditch the two tone and the trim, or add the roof. cheaper and will look better. jsut my .02

As far as your original question, I'll be the first to throw out the lamest of responses: "It's worth whatever someone will pay". Now, on to the more helpful answer. First, it looks to be in very nice condition for what it is. Opinions about the roof are what they are, so give that part whatever consideration you feel is reasonable. Secondly, a detailed set of pics and information(mileage, engine replacement history, etc) would be the next thing anyone will require. If it all looks and works like we all hope it would, I'm guessing in the $7-$8K range, to the right person.

Opinions are what they are, so if others disagree on my guess being too high or low, so be it. My estimate puts the current financial situation into the equation, and all that entails. These are very rare to find in this condition, and is arguably one of the most sought after early Rotary cars. It looks like its in the same condition of my 73 Rx2 when I got it in 1985, and I paid $600. Those were the days.

Offer it up for sale- someone from Austalia may jump on it. Or, you could keep it.

My Dad is finally ready to sell the RX-3. I know this thread is not the place to do the listing and give all the info and pictures but where should I list it? I saw an RX-7 classifieds page but not a forum for the Old School RX3s. What is the best place to list it here?
