Old engine before removal. Just an oil leaking Atkins rebuild (I have big plans for it, stay tuned).

The new engine installed. Don't it look purty?
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...1&d=1208452037

Someone grafted in an RX-4 front crossemember and mount bar. I installed some new motor mounts (competition on the left to support the SC).

It's a nice location for the engine. Far enough back, but not too far. Even enough room for the SC. :)

Kinda tight here. I had to clearance with a ball pein.
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...1&d=1208452037

The car has an RB header and presilencer into an aftermarket muffler. It's kinda loud, but so is the intake. Love that SC whine! :D

I'm glad it was a 5" supercharger. I'm affraid a 7" would not have wanted to fit as easily. The 7" is about an inch further from the engine for some reason and would complicate the strut tower clearance issue.

Let me know how much you enjoyed seeing this, please.

RotorRican 04-17-08 10:03 PM

As always Jeff,

It is bada$$ , yes video be kool!

84stock 04-17-08 10:49 PM

Looks good Jeff, looking forward to more details and video. Congrats on going with the daily driver route, I just popped my bridgeport last night.........play safe with the timing and fuel or we'll have even more in common soon...

rotary510 04-17-08 11:51 PM

i'm so jealous... not only a rotary 510, but a SC rotary 510!

84stock 04-17-08 11:54 PM

Hood clearance looks tight, I suggest a 9" diameter K&N filter with a filter top as well.

81 GSL 04-17-08 11:56 PM

cool....hows the throttle response?

Jeff20B 04-18-08 02:29 PM

No vids yet.

Edelbrock Performer Series 600 right out of the box. Holly red fuel pump.

I'd have to say mild streetports. '86-'88 NA rotating assembly, milled for 3mm apex seals. Aluminum flywheel. Throttle response is decent due to the light assembly, but the added weight of the SC adds some weight back, so it can serve daily driver duties. The clutch friction point is like right on the floor so it takes some getting used to.

The air filter will need to be figured out at some point. The hood prop rod is totally in the way of everything. I'd also like to upgrade the ignition to DLIDFIS, not that it needs it. :) It runs great and sounds good too with a Borla out the back!

bad to the bone

Here's my air cleaner now, and a previous using a gm hei offset base for a 14" filter.

teddyrx2 04-19-08 06:33 PM

I like them too

Jeff20B 04-19-08 08:21 PM

Thanks for all the positive comments everyone. That 510 with the side drafts looks like Gary Brooks'. I can see why the owner chose that style of carb. There is no room for a filter with the Edelbrock.

84stock, this setup had a triangle foam filter and it's really not very good. It allowed a lot of dust into the carb. If you look closey at the pics above, you can see that the top of the carb matches the venturi area. The owner only painted the oustide of the carb, lol. The rest of the darkness is from dust and dirt built up over miles of driving. Pretty nasty. We need a better solution.

I'm kinda in doubt about the filter you posted. There is like no room to work with. I'm thinking about taking the foam part out of the air cleaner and securing it directly to the carb so there is at least some kind of barrier to keep the bees and rocks out.

This setup sounds sweet. With the Borla out the back and the nice SC whine up front, you really feel your Levis swell while you're driving it, and it's not from the vibrations, because there are almost none (one competition motor mount transfers some).

BUMBLEBEE7 04-19-08 08:40 PM

Yes Jeff its Gary's 510. In case you are interested he's building an IC for his SC.

Jeff20B 04-20-08 06:10 PM

An IC for his SC? IMNVS.

BUMBLEBEE7 04-20-08 09:57 PM

He has a prototype made already. He needs to finish installing it on the car. I'm waiting to see the final product.

rotary510 04-21-08 04:38 PM

this may give you an idea for hood clearance

some of the 510 guys who do the sr20det swaps toss the hood prop assembly and cut out the flange on the hood and go to hydraulic hood stays. if i remember correctly, they use the TRUNK stays from a Honda Accord sedan (around 97-99 models). this gives them a couple of extra inches of hood clearance. i think TSR even sells a kit, but they are mucho expensive. you can source the parts yourself a lot cheaper.

RX7UP 04-21-08 04:46 PM

:D

Thanks!

Jeff20B 04-22-08 12:17 AM

I'll tell the owner. Thanks!

teddyrx2 04-22-08 01:51 AM

can that thing get any sicker
