Sounds like a damn F1 car.

dguy 11-05-18 11:08 AM

Meh, I'd rather listen to a stock B16. (just kidding, sounds rad)

Johnny Kommavongsa 11-05-18 05:03 PM

that's awesome, any more vids?

Cars super clean, sweet build!

So the car a had very successful weekend at the track (4&rotary south island champs). It was event that allows all types of cars to have a go on the track with no helmets and a car load of your mates. The engine ran great, hitting the limiter on gear changes. Also had a few drag races up the straight against a 4 rotor rx3 ( neck and neck ). The car was a hit with the crowd, sounding like an F1 car and making big flames. The gear ratios aren't perfect but the gear changes are easy and smooth. Used 120L of fuel over 2 days, considering we were only hammering it down the straight each time just shows how much fuel a 4 rotor gets through. I even won a prize for the best effort on the track! The peripheral ports weeping a bit of coolant also fixed themselves which is good. With 10 mins of track time left It threw the alternator belt off on a missed gear change and that then ripped the dry sump belt off, luckily the ecu cut the motor. I put the spare belts on and its all good. I have attached a video, there will be more videos coming once the media company's at the event go through their footage. Next move is to give the car a good look over and get ready for the next event which will probably be some drag racing.

Hi James. Was great to meet you, car looked and sounded outstanding on the track. Congrats again on a successful and speedy build.

amorphiss 11-23-18 07:28 PM

That sounds amazing. Super cool build

Got some cool photos from the Rotary only day at the track last month. Check out Crossed up media on facebook for the full albums. The car has been very popular, did a photoshoot earlier this month for New Zealands #1 car magazine, NZ performance car.

That filter through the hood looks ridiculous, I love it!

I purchased a new Gopro, here's a video I took last night.

Universe give me enough money to one day own a 4 rotor. That's the sound of gods.

7rotater 05-28-19 10:35 PM

Bit of an update on the 4 rotor Cosmo. Still running perfectly, starts hot or cold no problem with the one piece ceramic apex seals. The magazine article on the car turned out really good. Had a day at the track a couple weekends ago, was able to race the 4 rotor against my rx7 driven by my mate which was really cool ( surprisingly close ). Also got told off for exceeding the track noise limits so had to go easy on the back half of the track!

Have done a few upgrades/changes. First issue was the heat coming up through the trans tunnel, fixed that with an SFI approved shift boot. The paint on the bumper above the exhaust starting bubbling so I have put a 90° tip on, seems to have fixed that problem.

The biggest upgrade is the brakes. I have added bigger Wilwood rotors and calipers to the front. This is no bolt on modification, it took lots of mucking around to get it all to fit right. Unfortunately i didn't take any photos of the adapters i machined up, only a rough drawing. The aluminium hats for the rotors required machining down for the right offset and the bores needed to be opened up a bit. Here are the specs on the parts I used.

Wilwood superlite calipers part # 120-11136
Wilwood rotors part # 160-11839, 160-11840 ( LH and RH)
Wilwood aluminium hats part # 170-8320
Rx7 S4 master cylinder
A few 3an adapters and 3an flexible lines from Summit racing

This setup is so much better than the factory setup. I haven't got the booster hooked up yet. Feel free to ask me any questions regarding this brake setup.

Finally got a speedometer reading for the digital dash. I originally tried using a factory abs sensor to send a signal to the ecu but i just couldn't get it to work. I purchased a hall effect sensor and a collar with magnets that attaches to the driveshaft yoke, worked straight away.

Bit of an update on the Cosmo. I haven't posted on this site in a while because nothing has been changed on the car. It's still running, probably running better than ever. It gets used at the track every now and then, but not as much as I would like because I refuse to comply with noise restrictions on the track.

It still surprises me how well this engine goes + the reliability also. There really is no replacement for displacement! Over 500rwhp at a fairly low 8500rpm red line is the perfect package.

Next step is a roll cage so I can do some drag racing and crack a 10.99 or better.

Narfle 08-26-20 05:00 PM

The sound alone is worth the entry cost.

TeamRX8 08-29-20 02:49 AM

Just read the entire thread through for the first time. Congratulations on a job very well done. Definitely an achievement you can be well proud of and that most people will only ever dream of doing.
