'2 windshield chrome strips
Anyone ever mess with these? Couple days ago I decided to seal up my windshield leak and have become a semi-expert and removing the chrome strips now. Heh. On the other hand, I foolishly used way too much flowable silicone so now I can't get the strips back on properly. I'll have to trim some down to get them to fit right again.
My question is: has Mazda redesigned those metal clips (that rust away) in a plastic version that we can get for the RX-2? Ironically mine are all OK although some do have surface rust, so I figured now would be the ideal time to replace them with a plastic counterpart if it exists. I'm also considering just ditching the chrome strips/clips altogether and having the windshield resealed with a more modern rubber strip.. but who knows how much that would cost or if it's even possible. Alot depends on if a plastic version of the clips are availabe. Funny how those "3 hour" fixes turn into week long projects. Thanks, Mike |
I know that if you go to a Mazda dealership, you can still get the clips but that they're now zinc-plated or painted, depending on what batch you get. But no, they'll no longer rust out.

Has anyone ever had their windshield resealed with more modern stuff? Turns out mine is still leaking even after the silicone, it's getting frustrating.
