1977 Opel Kadett C Rotary Swap

Well guys I could not bring my car to Germany with me but I did bring the drive train. So I went out and found me a nice workable rear wheel drive car. So here it is.

Enjoy the pics as much as I enjoy daily driving this 6 Port Bridgeport. It feels like a Go-Kart with a turbine. I am going to use it for drag racing once I do the differential swap. Ford 9 inch and D.O.T. slicks here we come.

That is fracking sweet! :icon_tup:

Speedworks 04-11-06 09:00 AM

I wonder what German TUV says about that :-D Or do you US guys can make those things work as well in Europe?

aussiesmg 04-11-06 09:04 AM

That body was sold as a Holden gemini in Australia, many rotaries were installed into these, cool job though.

Did you swap all that at the Hobby Shop? Damn.

trochoid 04-12-06 02:19 AM

Nice choice for a swap. Looks like it will be fun.

ArmyOfOne 04-12-06 02:22 AM

Yup sure did. When I head up to the Bitburg Drag Races I am going to put the MWR magnets on the doors. Those guys were awesome over there at the auto craft shop. It all took me about a month working 2 to 3 hours at a time.

I see you have it on German plates? Like Speedworks said, I'm wondering about TUV too... But nice job, and sure a lot cooler then the average Kadett!

ArmyOfOne 04-13-06 12:44 AM

Those are actually american plates here in Germany.

Anything starting with HK, AD or IF is the American tag. I don't have to deal with TUV thank God.

Cool car....... Good Job!

frode 04-13-06 06:32 AM

Nice! They are very popular to put Ford Cosworth engines into here in Norway :)

Speedworks 04-13-06 07:01 AM

nah.. C20LET :-D like I had in ma Opel astra GSI

C20LET = 2.0 16V turbo (204hp)

ArmyOfOne 04-15-06 06:29 AM

Well thats a nice hp number but I am about 225hp at the wheels with this one. :D

The next step should bring it up to about 250. FI and Euro 6 port housings.

That things a beaut!
I am currently working on a T-II swap into my Opel GT...hopefully itll be done before the summers over.
Did the kadett chassis change from '73 to '77? I know the '69-'73 kadett and GT used the same suspension and chassis.

ArmyOfOne 04-18-06 06:17 AM

Yup its the same suspension setup. Too bad even the "big" differentials for these cars can't hold this much power. I am going to do either a ford 9" or a chevy 10 bolt swap here soon. It just all depends on which kind I find first. Good luck with that GT. I know this has been a lot of fun so far.

My first kill with this thing involved a very well prepped M3. He kept goosing back and forth on me on the highway so I slowed down to about 45 and as soon as we evened up I took it to 10K in second and third. Man he really tried to keep up with me but I got him by about 5 cars when I let off. With my gearing and tire size I estimate I was doing about 110 mph. Just to think, I still had 2 gears left and this thing pulls like its boosted.

SomeGuy_sg 04-21-06 08:33 PM

lol....That would be one hell of a sleeper :P But the rims are killing me :D how about some new ones for the car ;) you are gonna need it when ya start draging it

ArmyOfOne 04-26-06 03:55 AM

Well I am trying to find 2 of the same type for the front from a VW Bug. The front rim size will be 15x5.5 and the rears I will keep the 13x8 with some Mickey Thompson 235 60 13. That will give me a taller tire that can flex nicely. Tire height should end up around 24.5 to 25 inches.

Hey don't knock the ATS Classics. Those are what all Oldtimers sport around here.

lgbnaft 08-20-13 06:56 PM

Cool install.
Did you get it to a drag strip?
What did it turn?
