Been to the track again...Drove together with some posh cars!
Didn't bring the camera, but the Ferrari-guys did! Watch after about 1:17min... saw a Ferrari 458 Italia in the rear mirror, waited for him and gave him a run for his money. Both of us are flat out! You can also see when the rear apex-seal causen havoc in the housing! LOL Engine is being rebuilt as we speak... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8noXBl3CSG0 |
Sweet, sweet car. I'm such a big fan of Mini's yet I've never seen the rotaty conversion in one. Nice job.

My hat is off to you, RX-Mini. I love it: "I started with a hacksaw"!!

Here's my 1969 Austin Mini Rotary, located in Norway
Converted to RWD with Volvo rear axel, GAZ coilovers, a 1994 13B-REW engine and a N/A 5 speed box Not a convrsion for the lazy... the bay is a bit crowded! The engine is stock, except from a single turbo conversion, water/meth. injection instead of intercooler, and Adaptronic ECU. Just had it in a Dynapack for tuning, and it made 286,5 rwhp at 0.85 bar. Since it is no more than 650 kg (about 1435 lb) it is quite quick!:) http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4435/p6130315.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/8181/p6130312.jpg http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/2493/p6130316.jpg I started my Mini/Rotary project about 4 yrs. ago & haven't quite gotten around to finishing, yet(2 foot surgeries, marriage, school, etc.). It's good seeing how it could turn out!!! Soon though... Good job, RX-Mini! -turb'd |
Thanx! I don't think it'll ever be "finished". This winther I have put on a LSD (instead of the horrible welded diff) put on some bigger injectors to be able to increase the boost level, and hopefully reach the 400 whp mark, and tweaked the suspension a bit for more grip. The appearance of the car has also been altered a bit, engine lowered and put in a short-shifter. Need some paint and a session at the Dyno to be ready for the season!

SORRY FOR THE TOTAL LACK OF UPDATES!! Spent a few hours on a Dynapac today, remapping for small streetport, twinscroll manifold and Precision 6266 CEA (a/r 1.0). Power is of course measured at the wheel! Seems a hell of a lot healthier now!! Can't wait for spring to test it on the track!

My Mini should finally be on the ground by this summer - custom front subframe for different suspension set-up. In time... -turb'd |
That is the sickest mini ever.

Any new trips to the track, footage perhaps? :)
|
this has been one of my dream setups for decades now. I can't believe I never saw this thread before now. you, sir, are one of my heroes. the car just exudes rudeness! :)
|
Now that has to be a blast!

Wow this is just bad ass! It looks bloody amazing both in photo and video and she sounds damn mean! It's just beautiful all around she's amazing and you did great work.

Thanks for the feedbacks!
The car has behaved pretty well during various Trackdays! Some small things like a broken wastegate and a broken bolt in the front suspension are the only issues. Mad Mike Whiddett had a go in the car during the Gatebil event in Sweden, and returned with a big grin! He actually managed to drift the car...epic: https://www.facebook.com/video/video...51421162102657 At the moment I have purchased another racecar, and I am torn between storing the Mini, or sell it... the engine is going into the new spaceframe-car, so this might be up for sale as a rolling chassis in the near future. If anyone has a PP 12A engine on the shelf, and is looking for somewhere fun to put it...Just let me know! |
Gotta say this is amazing. I love these old Mini's, and seeing crazy motors in them always makes me happy. Keep up the good work.

Even if the Mini now is "retired" in storage to make room for the New Project, this feature makes me smile! |
Feckin awesome mate

Nice build. Love to see different combinations. Congrats on a cool car.

I know I'm re-opening an old thread but this is just too cool!
Do you have any vids of any tyres being wasted into copious amounts of smoke? I'd love to hear the engine really screaming!! :-) Awesome build! |
