13B Camden Supercharged VW Ghia
3 Attachment(s)
I installed the 13B with the supercharger about 3 1/2 years ago. During this period I turned the engine on evry one or two months and finally made the time to get it to the point I can drive it.
I am runing two MSDs one for each leading. I was planing to run Zero split on the trailing but I keep reading different opinions on this forum. Can anyone thet is actually runing zero split witht he trailing tell me if I should bother with it? The next step is to tune the carburetor. It is running too rich. It is a Holley 650 with 70 primary jets. I installed an A/F sensor with a stand alone unit (Zeitronix) to monitor the A/F ratio. It is running between 11.1 to 11.5. I hope to complete the tuning this weekend. After that I will be upgrading the cooling system with an aluminum radiator from Howe Racing and a 16" fan I already received. I have a 69 camaro with a 427 and as crazy as it may sound I enjoy the rotary Ghia much better. I finally made the time to get everything installed and drive the car and test |
Awesome! Full pics of the car? Clean engine bay...

Thankyou for posting. I have a 5" Camden and could easily install it in my rotary baja but would rather start out NA to see how it's going to be. As for ignition, the SC is currently in a 1st gen with totally stock 1st gen ignition components. It runs so well that I don't see any need to upgrade it to direct fire at the moment, and if I did, I'd probably run a 10° split since it is a 13B.
Rotaries like to run a little bit rich. The SC mixes the incoming air and fuel so well that even if the carb isn't tuned quite right, it will be less noticeable. I'd say a 650 is a bit on the big side, but I don't really know that much about Holleys. You could try some 63 or 65 jets, as that is what several Holley rotary users tend to recommend. I lik Edelbrock carbs personally because they run very well right out of the box. 84stock will probably see this thread and can probably recommend some better jet sizes because he has experience with Holleys and Edlebrocks on SCs. |

600 holley here 68primaries with 6.5 powervalve and 76 secondaries. Runs pretty rich but seems to do quite well. Waiting to get the charger back from camden before i can really romp on it too see. At idle i am about 9.5 which is rich!

Jeff20B and Yetterben thank you for your suggestions. I am going to keep the split trailing and change to 65 jets to see how it turns out.
The car itself needs to be taken to the shop for paint and new interior. Below is a picture from three years ago when I started with the conversion to a 13B. |
