Sentra is broken, Any advise?
 

I have a 93 B13, I have been dealing with an issue that has been baffling me so I figured I would reach out to see if I can get some insite into the situation.

Background:
A Push button start has been installed into the car, and It is Fairly Simple. Consists of Two switches and and Push button, One for Ign, and ACC, the Push for the starter.

I went to leave for work and I turned on IGN, ACC all the dash lights/buzzers/deck/ ect all turned on no problem. All seems normal. Than I pushed the starter, Heard a quick Pop from inside the dash some where and than all the electrical turned off. and Hasnt worked sense. When i removed the panel to expose the wires for the push button i saw that one of the hot wires poped off and grounded out.

I have checked all the fuses in the panels all are intact, removed the ecu and it was good, I was talking with the auto parts guy and they had me jumper the clutch inhibit relay to make sure the starter was good and it cranked the engine.

I am just at a loss at waht to check and how to determine bad relays ect... I suck with electrical.

Any insight would be helpful thanks!

why was a push button installed in the first place?
is there a fuse box under the hood? check those as well?

the two switches, are u saying the starter spinning one still works but not the ign/acc?

where was the switch wired too and from ? from battery to ? after the ignition switch?


Also it sound slike youve done some kind of hack job, so you would probably have better luck on the sentra forum as they may have more knowledge of how the cars electrical is setup. but its hard to tell with what u have done.

The hot wire that popped off- does it still get power?
If it doesn't, where does it get power from- and does that have power?

I'm assuming you know how to test electronics/have a multimeter, but let me know if I'm wrong and I'll walk you through it.

Well, It all started when I went to open my trunk and the key broke in the lock. so I had no money, no transportation and needed a quick and easy way to keep it running.

Ryan, I have been on those websites and nobody is helping, so I figured I would come to you guys because of how knowledgeable you all are! lol

I checked all the fuses under the hood and they are all still intact, Now I didn't take a mulimeter to it or anything so not 100%.

On the back of the ign (where you put the key into) The wires were cut and made into the push button harness. One for IGN, ACC, And Starter.

Nothing happens when You push any of the three. I was able to get the starter to move by jumping the clutch inhibit relay straight to the + on the Battery.

I am unsure on how to test some of these circuits as this electrical crap is not my forte.

Here are a couple of pictures. The first one is where it plug into the wiring harness under the dash, It is the same connector where you would have the ign for the key.

Sending you love from the Nismo pickup people... what year is it, and we can start playing wires. You either have no ground or no power, and you're probably right about it being a relay. That'll be easy- especially since you have a battery right there on the floorboard.

To start- get out the multimeter, unplug the switch side of the ignition harness, and check for shorts on the car side.

What voltage should the circuits read so I know it is good? and The vehical is a 93 Sentra 1.6 5 speed

You want page 21. Start with the white wire on the car side of the harness- are you seeing 12 volts? Are any of the wires in your harness shorted to each other? (Test this by jumping from one pin to another with the multimeter, switches off- you want 'OL' or a ridiculously high number of ohms.

As everyone wrote.. your going to need a multimeter to accomplish anything. A popping noise indicates a good chance of your cars electrical system doing what it should in the event of a voltage spike to prevent to component damage (fuse) or a relay is cooked.

How did you confirm they are okay without testing them using a multimeter?
