Rear strue help

So yesterday i was putting in my springs for my car when i ran into a problem. I got the front two on fine but when i got to the back two i could not get the spring off. The only thing i can think of is compresion tools. Does anyone have any suggestions or knows of this problem?

get a spring compressor
im pretty sure you can borrow them from napa for free. if not, they arent expensive. its a pretty crude tool, but gets the job done.

make one yourself...

thats what i did... just take two bolts and make a piece that connects em, and screw it together... looks ghetto, but it worked for me..

I had the spring compressed but when you try to unscrew the nut at the top the strut spins on the inside of the spring and the nut wont come off.

Oh.. yeah that happened to me back in the day.. i think i ended up ( slap my hand) using vise grips and a rubber glove and shop rag ( grip and not scratch the shaft.............. i think. ( this was 6 years ago)

yea you can rent them from autozone.; nothing is free. lol

Ya i tink you know what im talking about endnue it keeps spinning so the nut wont come off.

Josh18_2k 06-09-08 05:18 PM

loosen the nut first while the spring is pushing on it. then attach spring compressor, and take the nut all the way off
or, i believe theres a little key hole thing in the top of the strut. an alan wrench or soemthing similar goes in there

Ya it is a pain in the arse. Im going to check what you said about the key hole idea but we tried to take it of without the spring compressed when we were doin them all.

that would be dope if there was.. but im pretty sure youll win with a rubber glove.. a rag, and vise grips.. ghetto as hell.. but does the job. If i have time ill take a peek at a spare strut in my shed.. see what i can see.

Thanks man that would really help it would always help to have an extra pair of eyes. When we were putting mine on i was the only rx7 owner the others were an evo an integra and a 240 owner so they didnt know either. Apparently its a problem for evos as well though. If i cant figure it out i might just have to borrow an air compressor and some tools. Dang you Mazda you stumped me again.
