An Oregon-specific question
Hey all... it's been a while since I've been here.
Anyway, my FD has been very well behaved for the time I've owned it, but it needs a tuneup (among many small problems). I'd like to do it myself, but whoever changed the plugs last screwed me over as I am unable to get them to budge. I figure I'll take it somewhere and let somebody else with a much larger collection of tools deal with it. My big question is, does anybody have a suggestion where to take it for a stanard 30k tuneup? One place I went to that was a COMPLETE joke (they seemed soooo slimy) wanted $350+ for it because most of the cost was 'tied up in the spark plugs' (guh?). What kind of dollar range should I expect?
Thanks for any responses.

I highly recommend pineapple racing for any work- engine building, maint., basically everything under the sun and rob will take real good care of you.
I trust em with my fd-- it is in there right now getting the gremlins worked out.
groundzero motorsports is another great place for dyno, fabring parts, mods etc-- but rumor has it they are in the process of moving so I am not sure if they are operational yet.

Thanks for the replies...
I had always considered Pineapple and corksport to be more specialized places (for slightly more difficult procedures). You might say 'over the top' for something as simple as a standard tuneup. Was I just mistaken? And also, any idea how much they might charge for the usual 30k (filters/plugs/plug wires/etc)?
Thanks again, it is much appreciated.

I cannot speak to corksports level of service and products-- as I have not taken my car there to get worked on. Haven't heard anything negative though!
I think you will find that pineapple can/will do most anything with the exception of dyno tuning. Pineapple has very competitive pricing, and rob is ridiculously knowledgeable when it comes to all aspects of the rotary cars. I would give them a call and feel them out and see what they would charge for the maintanence work. 1-503-233-3878.
If you couldn't tell I am a raving fan of pineapple-- rob's level of service, quick turnarounds, and unsurpassed knowledge made me a customer for life.

Both Rob@Pineapple and Ralph@Groundzero are good friends of mine. I would trust bolth of them with my FD anyday, and highly recomend them.
GZ is moved, and doing work. From what I understand, the dyno room is'nt complete though.

Nice, gz is up and running! I need to find out when they will have the dyno up an operational--- it is time for that final dyno tune, once rob finishes exterminating the gremlin in my transmission!
All you locals and your rotaries, I am jealous. I'd like to get one, but I am in the process of selling my current car first. Thought it was awesome to read about GZ moving much closer to my location. I look forward to hearing about your trip.

Report (state of the 7 address included)
Well... I took my FD in to GroundZero today. I had the spark plugs and O2 sensor replaced (my check engine light gave me a code 17). He said that my plug wires were not bad, and didn't see anything else drastically wrong with my engine.
It was a fair price for what he did, in my opinion.
He did recommend on a future visit that I:
1) Replace fuel filter
2) Replace air filter
3) Replace belts (minor cracking)
4) Get downpipe & PFC
I also will need a new muffler (my exhaust comes out the bottom of the muffler as much as it comes out the back :-D ) but can't fork over the $600+ at the moment. I already knew this before I brought it in (I'm not very bright, but I CAN see gaping holes in my muffler).
I definitely agree about the filters and belts and will likely do those in the next couple weeks (my gas mileage is scary bad, so it's worth the initial investment). I doubt I'll do the downpipe/PFC anytime soon... I really can't afford the PFC.
All in all, I am very pleased with my trip to GZ. It is pretty close to my house (I am in Beaverton), and I didn't feel like the people there were weasely at all as I felt at the other mechanic I went to.
Short of a rebuild (which kind of demands a trip to Pineapple from everything I hear about them), I'll be taking my 7 to GZ for everything that I can't do myself.

P.S. I got a tour of the shop and it is killer (there was an FD and an FC in there being worked on). Not to mention the beautiful showroom FD.

They did have a mustang sitting on the dyno when I was there (not sure if it is fully up and running, as I didn't see them using it). It is still just 2 wheel right now (the rollers to make it an AWD capable dyno are on the way).
@Built GXL- sorry bout the seal. Every RX owner's nightmare. Stay away from Hayes, you say?
Sorry bout the double post
yea i dont know i bought this sick t2 and the motor had 1500 mileson rebuilt from hayes, and i guess the rear seal is shot, so now it's new seals and gaskets(hope to god that's it)
none the less it's a very clean and modded white '89 t2.
