need a local pro tuner for my FD

My FD is back from the shop, now with a rebuilt engine and an apexi powerFC, among a number of other mods. Is there anyone local to the Seattle area that really knows how to tune an FD?

I had most of my install done at Hayes Rotary in Redmond. They did a fine job on the mechanical stuff, but they dont have any experience with the powerFC. I've also been on the dyno at Carburetor Connection in Kirkland. They seemed more knowledgeable with tuning in general, but balked at the rotary.

I need someone that has tuned ~400hp FDs on the powerFC before. Anyone have any suggestions?

Mods are listed in my sig. Soon, i should have the Innovative wideband and A/F gauge, the powerFC datalogit kit, and a Greddy Profec BC to go along with that.

I have not found anyone local who will touch the timing map. Carb connection can add fuel but they don't know timing for a rotary and are not that too familiar with the PFC.

So I called Jason at the Rx7store and ask him if he could give me a hand. I e-mailed him an excel spread sheet of my timing maps (this was before I had the datalogit and LM-1 WB). He returned them with minor changes (retarded timing) to the upper RPM and Boost ranges. He stated that he gave me a more conservative timing map.

After watching my knock sensor readings from both maps, I stayed with Jason's adjustments. The engine was quieter at top end under boost. Not by much but it helped.

So your best bet maybe comparing maps with others that have similar mods, or have a known good tuner take a look at your maps.

I can give you my timing maps, but then that gets dangerous and I’m not responsible.

Question: Are you past the break in, how many miles?
What RPM/boost have you taken the motor to?

Just take the 3 hour drive to Ground Zero in Portland.....Ralph's the man!!!

Good Point, something I still haven't done.

I am as far away as Ralph and don't tune other people's cars but I am experienced with the Power FC, Tec III, and Haltech. The only person to take it to is Ralph, feel lucky that someone you can trust to tune it right is as close as he is.

Ralph is back at Groundzero, after a hostile takeover. :D I don't know all the details, but he's back there for good. Anyways, I'd take the drive to have Ralph tune the car. Well worth every penny. :) CJ

Ok so can we get a recap of what has happened with Ralph starting at when he was working at/owning? Xcessive motorsports the first time?

Ok, Ralph was/is the owner of Xcessive motorsports. Awhile back he hooked up with the guys at Groundzero, and they all decided that they would all combine their shops. From what I understand, there would be three owners including Ralph. A year or two later, Ralph leaves GZ to restart Xcessive. (The reasons don't realy matter.) One of the other owners of GZ wants out too....so Ralph decideds to buy out everyone. Now Ralph is the man at GZ and Xcessive. There are some other people involved but I don't know how much and what, is public information. CJ

Bottom line is that Ralph is the man when it comes to tuning. :D

So he owns both Xcessive and GroundZero. And he is awesome at tuning. Sounds like he is doing good.

Sup! Yeah Ralph is the dude for your tuning.:bigthumb:

So you recently received your street ported engine from Hayes...I think i've met you a couple of times before. Are you the dude from Starbucks in Lynnwood? Same person over there was getting an engine built/ported with pretty much the same mods as yours. I'm the dude in the black FD that had the stock exhaust, which didn't 'sound' stock.;)

Goodbye!
Edgardo
