How much are crate motors?

how much are they,
and where can i order one from?
And are they better than rebuilds?

if you mean JDM TII motors they go for 800-1200 i ve seen

places very on where you want to get them from but im not sure as where as i havent looked for one in a while
and no they arent better tahn a rebuild :bigthumb:

all the jdm motors are TII, so if you have an na, it doesnt really help. rebuilds run $1K to $2K and as we have all seen, you are at the mercy of the rebuilder as to what tolerances they accept as rebuildable parts. mazda rebuilds are just rebuilds with a mazda warranty, and i think they are priced to match the warranty (like $2500?).
if you are still screwing around with putting another motor in your car, pm me, I might be able to help.. at least i have a few ideas.
-Ive got a running 86 na that i need to dump
-got a rebuild with new irons in an 88 gxl that went through a fire for sale
-got motor out of a 88 na that supposedly runs
- know of mechanic that can probably make a running motor from your two cores.
lots of possibilities, all it takes is money!!!!

i could use some help. I hate to see this nice car go with out an engine, I have looksed at like 4 other rx 7 s and i just felt like they were not as nice, I might even sell it or put it in storage and get a t2 but i really would like to see mine run agian, its not really a problem with Money, i just hate to spend 3k on an engine when i can get another car for that much. I still want a t2 but i want two running cars. Incase my second rx7 blows. i cant have two non working cars or i might lose my mind, its an issue of not having a garage that is my problem, or it would be working by now, even if i had a good Motor infront of me its an issue of where i take my care to put the engine in at. i am in a condo so i cant do it here, they will vote me out of here, and i dont want that, I think if i moved that would solve alot of my problems but i am getting free rent here because of my second business, its a catch 21 i could let me car go and get another and take my loss and get another one but its hard for me,

Rotary engine "Crate motors" are not available. Not even RENESIS engines are readily available in crates from the factory yet. Everything is used (J-spec imports or US stuff) or rebuilt. A quality rebuild is the best way if you want a like-new engine, but if you just want to get something on the road a low-miles, used engine with good compression can't be beat for the price. Doesn't have to be JDM, but that is the most reliable supply of low-miles, used turbo engines. For NAs, your pretty much stuck looking for one out of a parts-car. It also might be a good time to consider building a "floorsweeper" yourself. While I'm not fond of businesses that do that, it can be a great way for an individual to throw something together to "get by" until resources allow something nicer. Great way to learn about the engines without much risk, as well. It helps if you have a second core from which to borrow parts as needed.
