I have been trying to fix this for 6 months. can somebody please help me out? I have taken the turbo apart two dozen times and have tried adjustments and new pieces.

Nothing works.

Someone help me get on the right track

Are you sure the center housing oil drain is not caked shut with burned oil?

ArmyOfOne 11-11-13 04:01 PM

I also make it a point to put the split ring oil seal in with the gap facing up.

KompressorLOgic 11-11-13 05:33 PM

you are positive its the turbo and not the motor leaking?

notveryhappyjack 11-12-13 12:26 AM

Jesus, I visually inspected the chra and it looked fine. I cannot recall which direction the piston ring is sitting.
Ryan, I sure hope the oil is coming from the turbo! & not the inside of the motor. Which piece of the motor would have to fail to have that much oil coming out the exhaust? Oil control rings iirc. I put about 1,000 miles on the rebuild and so far the dip stick is reading almost below safe.

Once I installed slightly larger journal bearings this smoke was about half as much. It's still too much smoke to drive around with though...

Thanks Jason, removed the turbo this morning. Exhaust manifold is pretty covered in oil.Attachment 756056 I'm going to have a professional assemble the turbo now. Oil in the manifold scares me

Alamo in kent? they actually had a hard time with my fd turbos, ran into some issues, but they would probably be able to do the fc turbo easily.

KompressorLOgic 11-20-13 09:04 PM

remove the manifold from the engine and take a picture of that side of it? theres no oil in the exhaust ports is there?

WtF? Are the nipples on the oil filler neck and center iron plugged off?

notveryhappyjack 11-22-13 11:00 AM

Jesus, I have a neat new catch can installed. Running a line from the drivers side center iron & also the oil fill neck.
Spoke with a turbo professional. I was twice shipped incorrect size journal bearings. Amazing I was able to put it together & drive 1000 miles with too small journal bearings w/o ruining any of the turbo pieces in the process, or worse :-\
