Clutch Release Mechanism
Ok, so I started to pull my tranny tonight, and about two steps in discovered that the Clutch Release Mechanism on the top of the tranny is in severe disrepare. So, I stopped there and thought I should consult the experts... YOU!
I dont know if I should continue pulling the tranny if this could be the real problem. The boot is trashed, the linkage into the CRM is so loose I can almost pull it out, and the round tip at the end mates perfectly with the clutch release on the tranny (no Pressure). Also, there appears to be some sort of air line leading out of the CRM, and it has a huge hole in it. Call me stupid, but could this be the reason I can start the car, put it in first, let out completely on the clutch and the car goes nowhere, and the engine remains ideling? I was told it was the clutch, but maybe the clutch is fine but this just needs to be replaced? Any thoughts? (Code for HELLLPPPP!!!!!) |

Ok, so here are a few pictures I took of the Clutch Release Cylinder, better known as the slave cylinder. (I just found this out)....

you think the slave cylinder is bad just because the boot is torn? Not likely, the boot is a protection boot. Hook the slave cylinder and get a friend to watch for slave momement when you push the clutch pedal down.
but the more I think about it, if the car is ON and you are able to shift to first, and you release the clutch and it doesnt do anything... its probably the clutch dude. The things your asking about wouldnt allow you to even get into gear in the first place |
is there any brake fluid in the clutch master??? or does the clutch peddle stay to the floor when you step on it????

i agree with hornbm , sounds like your going to have to pull the trany.. something inside is messed up

I guess the picture doesn't show the fact that the rod is nearly falling out (whats left of the boot is the only thing keeping it attatched). However, I think your all probably right - Gonna have to tear out the tranny. But, I think i'll go ahead and replace this too, since I'm right there and the part is only $25.00 ...

yeah. best to replace it anyways. so many times they are the problem. but to let you know. the only thing that holds that rod on is the boot/ pressure against the release fork.

Ok, new question, same topic - I had a friend feel for movement while I pushed in on the clutch. The cylinder moves just fine, but is now pressurized, and I can't get it to go back into place. I need the rod to move into the slave cylinder about one inch, but I can't seem to do it with strenth alone. How do I release pressure from the slave cylinder? Or, is there an easier way?

I don't think this slave has a bleed screw... Look at the pictures above. Unless you mean to disconnect the hydro line.... Thinking big mess!! Anyone have any other ideas?

Try taking the top off the resevior then pushing the slave cylinder back in.
