Anyone need irons lapped?

I have a batch of 9 plates, 12 sides to be lapped by my machinist.
He has always done amazing work for me and the price is right.
Just wondering if anyone else wants to have some work done.
Price is only $45 per side, $180 per set.

A couple after pics.
They can be precision measured and lapped to within .001"
I usually don't go past .002" as you can see by the one on the engine stand there are still some wear marks.

I needed a work truck, and got a good deal on a 35mpg car. It is still the favored car in the fleet!!!

what # of finish did they end up with ?

martinhickey 12-02-10 10:33 PM

Sorry for the distraction... Back to irons lapped! Anyone?

IIRC, it was less than 16 RMS. This can be brought to a finer finish at customers request.

Bumping this thread up. Next batch goes to the machine shop next week. ;)
Let me know if you are interested in having this done.

Kind of late notice, but having 2 engines worth done this week. PM or call if interested in having yours sent in also.

Any prep required???

Oil neck removed?

Rear heater hose outlet pipe removed?

Alignment dowels removed?

Does this include cleaning? (hot tanking of the plates to remove remnant debris)

Any price break on multiple sets (2x+)

Hi Jesse, Yes there is some prep involved.
Yes, remove the oil neck, and alignment dowels. These can be a pain to some to do themselves and I include it in my price, as well as a "rough cleaning"
I usually clean them in my parts washer breifly, and remove any gasket material that may be left on the front cover, or other mating surfaces.
I also measure step wear with a dial indicator and depth gauge if need be. Check for warpage with a precision strait edge. Again, this is all included in my price. If you were to do these things yourself and have a few sets, I'm sure we could come up with a fair deal. PM me for details.
Thanks,
Robert.

Multiple, light passes. Time on machine depends on how much material is to be removed.
Very similar to the vid, only a different machine.

Hey are you still offering lapping?
A few friends and I in Washington are very interested.

RW-7 03-21-14 12:30 AM

Sorry guys. I no longer provide this service.

silverfdturbo6port 03-22-14 01:15 AM

Are you re-nitriding any of these?
