Yellow the most valuable color for 3d Gen?
 

I am looking at the cars for sale around the country, and it appears that people ask a premium for the YELLOW cars. I understand they were built in limited numbers. What is the exact number of factory yellow cars produced? Is a Yellow car more RARE than a SILVER car with a RED interior? I really like that color combination. How many Silver/Red cars were produced? Thank you. Respectfully, John J. Garvey

Yellow is the rarest and the fastest, don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Often times the most rare color/option package is the one no one wanted when the car was new and no one wants now.
Meaning, rare does not always equate to valuable.

For FD RX-7s I believe the most rare (attainable) USA model is going to be a Base model Silver Automatic Transmission model. Well, at least the color isn't bad and the trim isn't bad- but no one wants the auto FD- that isn't what the car was about. 64 Base Silver Autos imported.

In the USA Competition Yellow Mica was only sold in 1993 and only with the R1 performance package (which was also only sold in 1993).
Yellow was the only paint color exclusive to the R1 performance package in the USA. 350 were imported.

Because of this association with the R1 performance model and in addition Yellow being the color of a certain FD in a popular cartoon- the CYM FDs seem to be the most sought out/ valuable USA FDs.

My favorite to collect would be a Black R1 because I love the way the Black looks on the curves of the FD when clean and I prefer the 1993 interior looks.

Not my pick to drive though since Black never looks clean and the 1993 interior is fragile.

For a driver I would probably choose a White (lightest color! Traditional Japanese race color) 1995 Base model upgraded to R1 package bits and 1999+ JDM bits and with 1999+ JDM aero added and some aftermarket liberally sprinkled in.

I think its fun to mention that yellow is one of the most stand-out colors there is! Whether it's late night photoshoots in the city, out on the beach for a sunny day, or taking twisties in the back roads, yellow is definitely the easiest eye catching colors. I used to see the red be more valuable than yellow, but times have changed! Beware - yellow conversions who still have the tan interior are quite awful in appearance imo.

Isn't yellow just a giant "give me a ticket" color? I would hesitate to buy a yellow FD even though it's pretty.

I don't know about Yellow, but Red definitely is the "give me a ticket" color.

Pretty sure part of officer training is where they teach them that people driving Red cars are daring officers to give them a ticket. I see their necks snap like they are going to get wiplash and then they follow you looking for a reason to pull you over.

Yellow is super eye-catching, but I don't think it has made it into the officer training material yet as a "must ticket" color.

But seriously, evolution has taught us to track and follow the bleeding animal when hunting and that trait is still embedded deep in our subconscious.

the chaste white FDs tend to be equally as hard to find and often times much more sought after.

I'm pretty sure that's all nonsense, wive's tales, superstition... and mostly a rationalization for driving like an ass-hat and getting caught.

As far as I know Mazda did not release any production numbers for specific colors on the standard model. There were far less Spark Yellow and Daytona Blue RX-7's than say Sunrise Red 7's.

I think yellow is the rarest color.

I just bought a CYM. I bought it because I'm that age where I grew up with Initial D so I paid the "Initial D tax" on it. Everything I read is that only 350 CYM LHD were brought in to the US. I have a 93 BB with Tan as my first FD that I still have. I'm trying to keep my CYM as stock as possible to maintain another one in the community as a clean one.

Since we never got a Spirit R in the US, my FD holy grail would be a low mile chaste white '94 with a glass moonroof.
Blasphemy, I know, but damn those CYMs are bright. I don't know if I could live with that. I have a Blazing Yellow Mica Mazdaspeed Protege. It's half as bright as CYM and is only a lowly little Protege, but it still stands out in traffic. There aren't too many yellow cars on the road besides me, some taxis and a few Nisssan Xterras.

To each his own. If you want to turn heads, a clean CYM FD will definitely do that. :bigthumb:

I can only speak to my own experience having had two Red RX-7s (10 years apart), one Silver RX-7, one Grey RX-7 and one Blue RX-7.

I believe yellow cars gets more tickets than red ones. The only reason being is that they are more noticeable. If you are looking at a sea of cars, the red ones stand out but the yellow ones are beacons lol

So if a cop with a radar gun is sitting on the side of the road chances are that he/she is going point it at the car that caught his eye first.

When I owned my single turbo CYM, I definitely received one pretty bad speeding ticket---the cop told me "Dude, I saw you coming literally miles away. That color lit up the gloomy day...... recommend you slow down or you'll be getting these all year long" :rofl:

We have to keep creating new threads since the search feature literally bring up nothing you searched for in the first place. I legit Google whatever then add rx7club on the end and hope for the best

That's because you are using google instead of the the search feature here. Try the search feature it really is very effective, just be prepared to read though.

By directly performing a search here you tap into 20 years of knowledge that is currently stored within the Rx-7 club. But if you just create a new thread you really just limit yourself to whom ever responds to you and that's not the most effective way if you think about it. With that said, the best way to use the forum is to do a search on a particular topic, read up and learn. And if you still are not satisfied then by all means create a thread that is tailored by your new found knowledge and subsequent questions.

Edit- Sgtblue is right. Ultimately this is a waste of a thread because the information the person was seeking is quite easily found using the search feature.
