Wiring harness wrap recommendation

Hi all,

While my motor is out being rebuilt, I want to cleanup and rewrap the brittle parts of my engine harness.

Does anyone have recommendations on tape/shrink wrap/heat wrap for this and a source site?

Thanks!

I did the same thing some years ago. After removing all the crispy stuff, I let my fingers stop bleeding and heal for a few days before using silicone self-fusing tape. I then followed up either with quality electrical tape, friction tape or just some plastic wire loom.
The silicone self-fusing tape is a bit expensive but I like it for it's high-temp toleration (my car's engine bay temps get stupidly hot) and sealing. And being silicone it's a great insulator, stays flexible and never dries out. It's only downside it that you need to protect it a little from oil and rubbing, hence the electrical tape or wire loom.
You can google "Silcone Self-fusing Tape" and find multiple sources. A lot of guys like McMaster Carr for things like this ---> http://www.mcmaster.com/#self-fusing-tape/=u6w38p (I'd get the high temp stuff) ...I got mine a from the local chain hardware store. Buying a roll or two at a time while doing the harness over the winter.

If I could make a suggestion....do a quick continuity check as you put the harness back together and BEFORE you re-wrap.

Thanks Jim, that looks like a good base for sure.

I can't tell from your sig if you deleted all those emissions/extras - if so did you wrap up the extra plugs or remove them from the harness?

My car is a single conversion with no emissions and I'd like to clean it up some as well.

Good tip on the continuity check, thanks.

Plugs and most wires back to the ECU were removed.

One quick note to make sure you're aware....before I removed anything emissions-wise I moved to a standalone ECU (PFC). I'm not certain of the requirements in this area for a FC.

There are a lot of options for harness wrapping but if you are just looking for a quality tape, then 3M Super 88 does the job. Rated for heat, resistant to grease and oil, fairly easy to find. This was 3M's answer when I walked into their factory years ago and asked them what they would recommend for basic harness wrapping.
