Wipers, Fuel Light, and Moon Roof won't work... Please Help!!!!

Ok. So I already introduced myself on the introductions page, but for future reference, my name is Seth. I just bought a 1987 Mazda RX7 GXL. After I drove it home, I started to get the car "itch" again and inspected EVERYTHING on the car. I noticed while going through it that the fuel light is always on in the dash no matter how much gas is in it. Another thing, the Moon roof (or Sun roof, I don't know the difference) lifts but does not slide open. I can hear the motor trying to pull it back but it doesn't move. And lastly, my Intermitant wipers and my II high speed wipers dont work, but the low speed wipers work great. is there anything I can do to fix these problems and if so, what is the problem???

Thanks to all who can answer these questions. I look forward to gaining some knowledge about this car off of some of you here.

Seth

Congratulations on your new RX-7. Fortunately, the problems you listed come up fairly often on this board and have been answered many times.

Your fuel level sensor may have failed. Mine had gone bad in a slightly different way that yours might have. The LOW FUEL light would never come on, and then one day the fuel gauge dropped well below zero. I got a new fuel level float from Mazdatrix and it fixed my issue. Before you go ahead and rip the old one out and order a new one, you might want to check the gauge via the Factory Service Manual to make sure it's fouled.

You might have a sticky sunroof. There's a writeup somewhere on here in the 2nd Gen Archives Section on helping with that issue. I know, because I've seen it before; I just can't find it in the Search. The internet here is so slow, I don't want to spend 20 minutes trying to find it.

Pretty common problem with the 2nd gen RX-7. One of the three relays in your switch has probably stopped working. Go to the link below on procedures for replacing the relay. Fixing the problem shouldn't be too bad, if you have some prior experience with a soldering iron. From my personal experience, the fix is well worth it.

Hopefully I've answered your questions effectively.

the sun roof on sec gen. you will have to push it up at the back close to the hatch back then it will go back on its own but it will save the motor to help it open and closed i have a 91 tII

Quick Update

Well the fuel light gust seemed to fix itself :dunno:. And I did have a problem with the horns not working but they also fixed themselves . Have still yet to try to open the moonroof. But I will post when I do. Thanks for the help
