Where can I find complete front cut of FD3S?
As the Title says, I am looking for a complete front cut for a FD3S or even FC3S (Turbo only).
How do u know for FC3S model to differenciate early or late model engines (i.e. S4,S5)? I am located in western Canada. Could anyone tells me where can I find reliable sources for front cut? And I need a reputable shop for this. Is there anyone else other than RX-7 Specialist? How do u check for compression on these things? Do u just hold the release valve open from your normal Compression tester? Then crank? And whats the number are u looking for is good motor for both FD and FC turbo engines? Thanks |
Try checking your local junk yards

I would look to an importer for a front clip. Junkyards might have something, but it's not likely you'll find a 3rd Gen intact.
Compression tests with a normal tester are good enough for "bad/so-so/good" quality results, just hold the valve open or rip out the check valve. Dave |
If your just looking for a longblock, ask Japan2LA. He is usually selling them.
I have seen a few front clips for sale on ebay. Taken from the 3rd gen FAQ https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-rx-7-technical-256/frequently-asked-questions-3rd-generation-rx-7-1992-2002-faq-fd-782404/ Compression Test: http://www.fd3s.net/compression_test.html http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/3r...ion_check.html Good luck, Jeff |
Thanks guys for the quick replies. I agree, most junkyard won't have FD sitting around in them. I might look more into importers thou. Hopefully will find a front cut.

You could try craigslist. I bought my engine from a guy in GA for cheap, like 1300 or so. It runs pretty good. But it was like a four hour trip both ways for me to pick it up, and the guy didn't know a thing about rotaries.
I don't know where in Canada you could find someone that supplies an entire front clip. But you might be able to call one of the rotary shops in this list that I found in the Canadian forum. Maybe one of them could source one. https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-forum-42/list-canadian-rotary-shops-796639/ Good luck, Jeff You could also try posting a WTB ad in the Canadian classifieds https://www.rx7club.com/canadian-sale-wanted-classifieds-120/ |
